Always & forever my peaceful brain place. by @middleseatview

Long #realtalk alert 🩷

This season has been hard. I call it a season, because I firmly believe this is just a passing season of life, and yet the hard has now spanned more than one nocturnal season. I can’t recall a time in my adult life when the hard things kept stacking on top of each other like this. Life this year has often felt like a jenga tower, teetering on the brink, with more bricks being added and yet very few of them strategically being taken away.

Last weekend we flew to Seattle to spend time with some of my friends, who I hope B now also considers friends. For 36 hours, we talked and laughed and explored with humans I love and don’t get to see enough. A copious number of hugs were exchanged. Carbs were eaten. No one looked at their phones (ok, honestly, I probably did more than anyone… the worry of the season backing up in my brain), and everyone just enjoyed each other’s company.

After a long day together, someone suggested we visit a park for sunset over the Sound. I’ll admit I was reluctant – my brain wanted nothing more than to introvert for a bit. Yet, like so many things in life, I’m glad we took the chance, because we were rewarded with a real stunner of a PNW sunset. The beauty of Seattle and the surrounding areas always stuns me, no matter how many times I visit.

I was reflecting on the long transcon home last night that even though things are hard, there is so much to be grateful for. On this trip, I crossed the threshold of having flown more than 100,000 miles this year (so far). What a gift to be able to see so much of the world in just nine months. But I’m also exceedingly grateful for snuggles with Luna at home, long walks with friends, reading 140 pages in a book in one sitting and just curling up next to B in our own bed at night.

Onward and upward, always. by @middleseatview

A handful of departures at LAX + a stripey plane go around + a whale coming in. All on my phone. And basically the only photos I took. It was nice to just be present.

While it was cool to finally get to see the Lufty 100th anniversary Queen in person… the real star of Dorkfest was once again the people. What a joy to get to spend 36 hours uninterrupted with some of my favorite people in the world 💙 by @middleseatview

Aussi Paris.

Paris in the spring is always a good idea 🌺

Pro tip: for an easy, leisurely boat ride down the Seine, buy a ticket on the hop on-hop off Bato Bus ferry & download a Rick Steves podcast for narration ⛴️ by @middleseatview

When I joined United in July 2025, the first thing everyone asked me was where I was going to use my flight benefits to go. And my answer was always the same: a solo trip to Asia within the first six months.

So, when it came time for my annual January solo adventure, instead of heading to Europe like normal, I decided to use my flight benefits to check a new continent off my list by spending six days in Hong Kong!

The city was incredible: overwhelming, overstimulating, chaotic, interesting, hard, amazing. I’m a big city girl, but it stretched my travel comfort level in ways I didn’t know possible – and in the best way possible.

Five tips to make your visit unforgettable:
🥟 The food scene is incredible. with Michelin star rated food seemingly around every corner – and most of it is not overly fancy or expensive! Some of my favorites: @maksnoodlesg, @holeefookhk (sit at the bar), @lungdimsum, @halfwaycoffee, @klfcoffee.hk & @doubleblackhk. And a bubble waffle (or three) from @mammypancake.hk.
💙 Get out of the commercial downtown, where luxury shopping brands dominate, and into the neighborhoods. I stayed in the Wan Chai neighborhood and my favorite morning of the trip was just wandering their street market with my camera and a pineapple bun hot from the oven, fully engrossed by Hongkongers going about their normal morning routines.
⛴️ Victoria Harbor plays a huge role in life in Hong Kong, and I am happiest spending time on the water. The Star Ferry – largely unchanged since the 1960s – is an important transit line between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon, and offers spectacular views of the skyline. It’s also the best transit bargain around – just $.80 USD during my visit! I rode it multiple times per day, sometimes choosing it over the subway (which was also easy to use and navigate, with signs in both Chinese and English). And don’t miss the chance to wander along the harbor – both Kowloon and Hong Kong Island have well designed walking paths along the water.

Christmas in London!

It was H O P P I N G festive the weekend we were there! And by hopping I mean packed to the gills. But on my third trip to one of my favorite world cities this year, it was fun to see it all decked out for the holidays.

If it seems like all we did in Paris was eat… that would be correct. We actually didn’t have a single bad meal, which was such a pleasant surprise (but also? #France).

Here’s a rundown of my favorite bites:
- 🦆 duck and foie gras wrapped in a puff pastry at @aubergebressane which is now solidly in the top 3 of my favorite travel meals ever
- 🐌 buttery, garlicy escargot at @aubergebressane
- 🍟 moules frites at @janettebardelamer_paris
- 🦆 duck breast & au gratin potatoes at @lesantiquaires
- 🥪 Croque Monsieur at a random sidewalk cafe
- 🍰 Paris Brest (FAVE), the best pork chop ever, the famous steak, caviar deviled eggs & the freshest pate at @bistrotpaulbert
- 🐌 Bourgogne snails in their shell & profiteroles at Brasserie Vagenende
- 🧀 all the fromage at @lecafedeflore

Do you love escargot as much as I do? by @middleseatview
