THE REPS THAT DIDN’T MAKE THE FIRST REEL! Here’s Trey putting in the work. The standard is set! #youth #sports #growth #mindset by @middleton_method

Extrinsic motivation is almost ALWAYS a game-changer, particularly in youth athletes!

It teaches them what their body is capable of. At young ages, it’s hard to find maximal intent when you can’t see the bigger picture. Sometimes incentives can increase the neural output!!

In this case it worked - 4 clean sets of 10 with a weight he could only press 5 good times by himself 1 month ago. We’ve been working in the meantime but now the bar is set. And whe know what the new normal is. No more extrinsic on this level - in order to unlock a new level, will utilize this tool again.

The extrinsic factor need not always be cash but anything kids want to do that’s outside of the norm that you might say no to usually. Use sparingly, the goal is to set the bar. Now to keep it there comes from within!!
Curious on thoughts about using this type of motivation with your kids or your athletes, it is a debatable topic in youth sport and conditioning.

Every year around my birthday, I dunk the ball—just to make sure I still can and to keep myself accountable.

Last year, I gave myself an excuse. My feet hurt… or something like that. 😂

This year, I had the perfect excuse. The gym floors were being redone, and on my birthday the courts were CLOSED. I thought, “Well, that’s a great reason not to attempt it.”

WRONG.

I had to get real with myself. It had been TWO YEARS since I attempted to dunk.

At 48, yes—I can still dunk. No, it doesn’t feel the same as when it was effortless.

But the fact is, I don’t maximal jump very often anymore—and that’s what’s required if you want to FLY.

I’m glad I did it this year because now I know exactly what I need to fine-tune.

Next goal: get back to my SHOW DUNKS.

Keep doing the things that connect you to your prime, and you’ll keep more of your prime with you.

Everyone wants faster feet...
But few realize your arms help determine how fast your feet can move.
Better arm action = better rhythm.
Better rhythm = more efficient movement.
More efficient movement = faster athletes.
Don’t just train the feet. Train the entire system. @am24rii Nailed it! #trainhard #champion #speed #traintoperform #middletonmethod by @middleton_method

Performance starts with movement.
Tight muscles and restricted joints can limit speed, power, agility, and increase injury risk. Through targeted dynamic stretching and movement preparation, I help athletes restore mobility, move more efficiently, and unlock better performance.
Move better. Perform better. Stay healthier.

Freshman year tested her… but sometimes the setback is where the foundation gets built.
After redshirting her freshman season at @norfolkstatevolleyball due to injury, Mikayla attacked the rehab, stayed locked in, and never lost sight of the mission.
The recovery chapter is closed… now it’s 💯 GO MODE.
Stronger. Faster. Smarter. Ready for what’s next. 🔒🏐

With a full schedule, workouts are usually quick hitters…
But when I travel, I lean into the extra time.
Find a @lifetime.life, get to work — feels like home every time.
