WABB-226 The MIDI Janitor - Closed For The Festival. Closed For The Festival is The MIDI Janitor’s fourth full-length and is the follow-up to the Holy To Dogs LP, which was originally released on cassette in 2024 on legendary Vancouver tape label Hotham Sound and then in a vinyl edition by Toronto’s We Are Busy Bodies.

Closed For The Festival will be the first MIDI Janitor record to be released exclusively by We Are Busy Bodies. The new album, Closed For The Festival, is a biography of Jonathan Orr’s shadow self. The album’s first single, ‘Sovereignty Figure’ is out today.

Born from memories of his childhood spent wandering rural Ireland in Ballymore, Donegal on his grandmother’s Christian commune, Closed For The Festival masterfully straddles the line between warped joy and sinister naivety. As Orr states, “the songs are always trying to get to that moment of taking your hand and walking you into the woods on a pretty spring afternoon and then abandoning you there to figure out ‘how do I get out of here?’”

Closed For The Festival recalls the dream-logic electro of Boards Of Canada’s unreleased era, the smeared chords and junkyard beats of late career U-ziq, and the long-buried treasures uncovered by the Sublime Frequencies label, but is never willfully nostalgic in nature - each track is an incantation in honour of ‘thin places’, where the presence of an eternal moment seeps into the present moment - the uncanny feeling of which has followed The Midi Janitor throughout his life and creative work.

Closed For the Festival will be released digitally and in a limited first vinyl edition of 300 on May 8th, 2026. Audiopile in Vancouver, Canada will have a limited silkscreen cover version of the album available. by @midi_janitor

Friends, comrades, accomplices: it is time to choose.

Lula, French students, and Vancouver’s municipal election show us that a different and better world is possible. But more ominous and odious outcomes - some further afield, some right at home - show us that this world will be a fight.

When our moment arrives, can we overcome our analysis-paralysis and rise to the occasion? This question is the theme for the next episode of ANOTHER WORLD. My two guests will help me improvise answers to this question, but with a catch - they’ll be digging from a crate that I’ve put together and that they haven’t seen.

The guests are none other than thee mighty @seanorrofficial and Jonathon Orr (aka @midi_janitor). We are calling the show EITHER/ORR. It will run this Sunday (Nov 1) from 2-4pm on @bsidedotradio.

To hear it, either consult Lincoln D’Bayou or arrive at @thebeaumontstudios at the above time. Choose wisely. by @midi_janitor

Haida Title Now 🪬 by @midi_janitor

The MIDI Janitor tape coming out next year is directly inspired by my travels to Haida Gwaii. It is of course, impossible to capture the power and mystery of the place but I have tried to transmit some of the things I felt while I was there. It is a place of riddles and tricks: you feel like you are everywhere and nowhere at the same time, you can never tell whether you are in the the sky, the sea or the forest or all of them at once. There is a rhythm to the place, but it is a rhythm that is endlessly changing and slipping in and out of time. You move from exhilaration and elation to a kind of awe filled fear, often moving in between these two feelings continuously. So I wanted to make the music reflect that.

I wanted it to be MIDI Janitor but also not.

Stoked for a new MJ tape? by @midi_janitor

Demo track for a tape coming out this winter. Not sure if this will make the final cut, but I am challenging myself to not do the same things I always do. My brain wants everything to be slightly dissonant, with lots suspended chords, stacked voices and octave jumps. With this one, I was trying to write something where the emotion was obvious and the chords were closer to major chords. It still feels too sweet to me though. What do you think? by @midi_janitor

🪬 More off cuts from the 'Closed For The Festival LP' // by @midi_janitor

Closed For The Festival is a half-remembered dream from a childhood spent in rural Ireland.

I grew up on my grandmother’s Christian commune in Ballymore, Donegal—a scatter of white-stone chapels, cottages, and kitchens where she cared for Ireland’s unloved, seeking their salvation through prayer, the laying on of hands, and the occasional exorcism.

It was the 1970s. My parents were hippies, and I roamed freely from dawn until dusk through the forests, fields, and mountains surrounding Ballymore. I knew there were things there older than my grandmother’s Christianity.

I had seen them. I had felt them. I had heard them.

• On Bandcamp now
• This is a track that I've played live a lot and people always ask about it, but it didn't quite fit on the album so here it is in all it's unmastered junkyard glory.
