Devil’s Gate Dam is a historic concrete flood-control structure in Pasadena’s Arroyo Seco, built in 1920 by the Los Angeles County Flood Control District. The dam was constructed after devastating floods repeatedly swept through the canyon, threatening homes, roads, and infrastructure downstream. Its name comes from the distinctive rocky formation known as Devil’s Gate, where the Arroyo Seco narrows dramatically between steep granite walls. Today, the dam sits within a rugged landscape of oak woodland, chaparral, exposed rock, and steep canyon walls. Water rarely flows heavily across the structure except during significant storms, leaving the surrounding area dry and surprisingly remote-looking despite being surrounded by the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The site has become popular with hikers, photographers, and urban explorers drawn to its imposing concrete architecture, unusual geology, and eerie, secluded atmosphere. #urbex #urbanexplorer #haunted #losangeles #fyp by @midlifetriceps

ABANDONED POOL, GRIFFITH PARK. Tucked away in the rugged hills of Griffith Park lies an eerie, captivating relic of 1920s Los Angeles: an abandoned mountain-top swimming pool. Originally built for a historic girls' youth camp, this concrete basin is now covered in vibrant graffiti and surrounded by overgrown brush. It stands as a silent survivor, having weathered both the devastating 1933 Griffith Park fire—where it served as a lifesaving refuge for trapped workers—and a 1950s blaze that destroyed the surrounding camp structures. Though the site was utilized by a boys' camp until 1987, nature has completely reclaimed the canyon. Reaching this hidden destination requires a scenic but moderately challenging 3-mile round-trip hike along the Bill Eckert Trail, ascending 600 feet in elevation. Adventurers who navigate the narrow dirt paths and cross the weathered wooden bridge are rewarded with a hauntingly beautiful, forgotten piece of California history. #abandoned #urbanexplorer #griffithpark #21pilots #losangeles by @midlifetriceps

Shoutout to the artist behind this character, @13abyluna As a big fan of passionately made wall art, this piece has made our trip to Devil's Gate Dam more enjoyable. A number of us complimented how beautiful painted this piece is. I didnt even need to edit this footage before posting. Amd Mala, it would also be an honor to film your artistic process someday. #graffiti #art #devilsgate #fyp by @midlifetriceps
