Art form evolves, and sometimes they merge. Who would’ve thought that video games and photography would one day intersect? That is how Megan (@midnight.hyp3) from Belgium now spends her free time: taking photos inside video games - virtual photography.

Virtual photography is basically the act of taking pictures in video games using photo modes, which is a tool put in by developers that lets players freeze their game and move their cameras freely. They are a simple feature most of the time, but there are plenty of titles that offer in-depth photo modes where players can achieve crazy levels of photography.

To Megan, virtual photography was her way to process her feelings, specifically grief, after she lost her father back in 2018. At that time, she felt like nothing in the world understood her except for video games, and that’s what made her get lost in various virtual worlds, capturing scenery and scenarios that healed her heart little by little.

“The games I played at about the same time approached grief most realistically … it helped me go through the grieving process in a way that I don’t think I would have been able to do without.”

Her discovery of in-game photo modes, however, was completely accidental. While playing Assassin’s Creed: Origins, she pressed both joysticks of her PlayStation controller at the same time by accident - the game then froze, and it led her down a rabbit hole of a hobby. She then started experimenting, taking pictures, posting, and making her way in the virtual photography community.

Outside of virtual photography, Megan has also been trying to take her hobby beyond the screen: real-life photography. It is a slow process because cameras are very expensive to invest in, but her experience in virtual photography taught her many techniques to start with.

“I learned a lot from it that I now apply to real-life photography. I’m trying to do more of it, but I still find it easier to do virtual.”

'' Reaching for the stars. ''

Okay so, if you've known me long enough, you KNOW my weakness is all about action shots, portraits and what not... I'm an environment, street photography girl and always have been!
The thing is, I'd been yearning to learn how to take those kinds of shots and see how I'd fare. That led me to a whole week of taking pictures in Marvel Rivals that are outside of my comfort zone, spending hours getting them right, and bringing them to you with this first set (of many more to come).

Friendly that you can do literally anything so long as you put your mind to it. I'm super happy to say I'll be posting hybrid content from now on from Rivals, including characters AND environments (as they're still my favorite to capture).
Anyway, enough with the ramble, hope you enjoy this set as much as I loved capturing it. 🧡

Smol AC Black Flag set today! I've been stocking up and these are from a recent capture session I had. Which slide is your fav? 👀

I've been getting sidetracked, I'm so all over the place 😂 I'm clearing small island after small island, and it's been so satisfying discovering this gorgeous world again (and obviously taking a lot of pictures).
Having watched The Odyssey though, I've been feeling like playing that again to grab some pictures inspired from the movie, especially since the AC page posted about it (clever ones).
Anyway, enjoy! Next set will probably be some Marvel Rivals 👀

This remake is amazing. I have some nitpicks with the photomode but WE HAVE A PHOTOMODE?! 😭 How lucky. The game is absolutely gorgeous, did you pick it up?

While I'm playing through God of War (2018) again for the remake archives, here's my stance on the current drama, before I move on to better things. 🍵

My whole purpose, for many years, has been to look out for each and everyone on here, and that hasn't changed one bit, if anything, I don't mind speaking up now because my thoughts are my own, and don't have any incidence on a page I would run.
LIVE AND LET LIVE.
The Ko-Fi rant? Here are my 2 cents. You can monetise your VP as a creator, in the sense that, you can't sell any of your pictures, but you can receive donations as long as there's no incentive, paywall for access to commissions, pictures of higher quality, etc. You can also monetise on TikTok and YouTube.

People and feature pages haven't done it much or at all, but does that mean no one should? I beg to differ, but at the end of the day, everyone is free to think the way they want. Back in 2018, the OG group all had Ko-Fis setup, did we start a witch hunt? No. The whole purpose of this community is to support one another, and look out for each other. Progress can never be made if we don't step outside our comfort zones, and honestly? I'm all for change, it invites evolution. If you can be a bad b, post nice stuff and get that little extra 💵? GO FOR IT 300%.

'' a hobby shouldn't be monetised '', I'm not saying everyone doing this wants to get monetised, or even hired... But I know a good chunk of us actually do. Because it's getting monetised doesn't mean it isn't a hobby anymore, and isn't the line between hobby and passion thin anyway? If you get to wake up everyday, doing what you love and getting paid for it? I'm saying that's a win.

I don't see witch hunts for streamers earning money for what probably started as a hobby. They don't own the game rights either. Same with gaming YouTube channels, you name it.
It takes me back to the days when people said this isn't an artform because we don't create the scenes we capture. An architecture photographer didn't build whatever they're shooting, yet they're considered an artist.

Let's stop with the gatekeeping.

Tried to treat it like any other game and focus on the environment for this set! Ever since doing the Cyberpunk 2077 collab with @faerk_7, I wanted to try and up my carousel game 👀 let me know how you like it!
I'm not sure whether it'll be a recurring thing since it's quite time consuming, but every now and then, why not? Depending on how well it's received 🧡
I'm sorry I've been a bit out of the loop lately, I'm averaging 50h of work weekly, juggling with studies and what not. I hope I can find my balance again soon! I was doing really good and I'd like to try harder.

She felt so real, the way the actress conveyed her emotions? Simply breathtaking. She grew on me quite a lot throughout the game. The moment I knew she was becoming a really good character in my eyes was when she jumped into the basement, knowing what was waiting for her down there. I hope we see more of her in the future!
