👏👏👏 Keep up the great work... you've now diverted over 2,825 tonnes of food waste from your rubbish bins - roughly equivalent to 471 large African elephants!

🥳 Your food caddies are making a BIG difference! 🌱

Since we launched our food waste collections in June, we've now collected over 2,825 tonnes of food waste from your caddies*!🍌

That's roughly equivalent to 471 large African elephants worth of food you've collectively diverted from the rubbish bin, to be recycled into biofuel and biofertiliser 🐘

All your meat and fish bones, tea bags, coffee grounds, fruit and veg peelings, mouldy bread, gone off cheese, unsalvageable leftovers and more, add up - although Food Savvy Suffolk have great recipes and tips if they can be saved!

Please make sure to put your caddy out - with the handle up - the night before collection, beside rather than on top of your other bin

Then pull the handle all the way forward to lock between collections

🚛 You can always check if there's a delay to your collection on our website (just select 'bins and recycling' on the homepage)

Babergh and Mid Suffolk weekly food waste collection facts:
♻️ we have 16 dedicated food waste vehicles and crews
♻️ the crews travel around 9,000 miles a week
♻️ each vehicle is powered by either electric or low-emission hydrotreated vegetable oil
♻️ collectively, the food waste crews alone empty over 20,000 caddies a day and over 100,000 a week
♻️ your caddies are first emptied into a 'helper bin' which looks a bit like a normal waste bin, this is then hooked and loaded into the lorry
♻️ crews may leave your caddy on its side after collection to show it's been emptied
♻️ your caddy contents are turned into biofuel and a biofertiliser at these anaerobic digestion facilities:
Biogen in Halstead, Essex
and
BioteCH4 in March, Cambridgeshire

The final £300k of our Stowmarket Town Centre Gateway Fund is up for grabs - apply by 31 October

💡Are you a business owner looking to bring arts and cultural experiences, tourism, leisure, community activities or something else to Stowmarket's high street? 🔽

And you can apply for the final funds left in the pot...

ℹ️🔗 Find the details by searching 'Stowmarket Town Centre Gateway Fund' on our website (link in our bio)

A message so important even some of our bin lorries wear it!

If you need to hire someone to collect and dispose of additional waste, you must:
✅ Ask for their waste carrier licence (including the number)
✅ Check the number on the @envagency register
✅ Check you’ll get a receipt

Rogue waste traders don’t always look like criminals. A professional-looking ad, ‘five-star’ reviews, a tempting price and quick collection can all make a trader look legitimate

No one wants to see their waste fly tipped on a street, field or open space where they live

Don’t just trust the ad. Check the trader. Don’t fall for a rubbish deal or scam

📲If you witness fly tipping in our districts, be sure to make a note of any details like the date, time and vehicle registration, and location etc and report it to us via our website (just type fly tipping in the search bar)

ℹ️ Find more information about how you can help prevent fly tipping on the @suffolkrecycles website

🏗️ Who wouldn't love a school trip that involves seeing a digger and plant machinery! (teachers included 😃)

Some very excited year one and two pupils and teachers from @eyeprimarysuffolk headed down to our Paddock House site at the end of last month to see the builders in action and wear a hard hat and high-vis jacket 👷

Before the visits, Alan from @rosebuilder also spoke about what's happening on site at a whole school assembly, and just about managed to answer all the pupils many questions!

Works to transform the disused care home site into affordable housing began in March this year with Cllrs Richard Winch and Lucy Elkin breaking ground on site.

@rosebuilder will be capturing drone pictures as work progresses on site, with the first two photos included in the post 📸 Eye Primary School pupils visit Mid Suffolk District Council's Paddock House site with Rose Builders taken in Eye, Suffolk by @midsuffolk

Last week, we were honoured to have Councillor Andy Mellen join us for the launch of our newly restored medieval barn.

We're incredibly grateful for the support of Mid Suffolk District Council, which makes vital projects like this possible. by @midsuffolk

✨ Our REACT team spotted it and got to work ✨

Before and after photos of a path clearance our REACT team recently tackled in Great Blakenham 🦺

The duo spotted the overgrown path while carrying out other works, so got to work cutting it back for clearer and easier pedestrian access.

✅ Our REACT service covers the whole district and has been funded from re-invested income from our Gateway 14 site in Stowmarket. Mid Suffolk District Council's REACT team path clearance in Great Blakenham taken in Great Blakenham by @midsuffolk

See the moment Suffolk Trading Standards discovered a stash of illegal tobacco and vapes - with a street value of almost £16,000 - under a concrete floor at Diamond Vapes in Stowmarket 🚭

🧑‍⚖️ The store has been ordered to close for three months following a joint operation between Suffolk Trading Standards, Stowmarket Police and our council

It follows multiple enforcement visits and a raid by Suffolk Trading Standards - supported by officers from the Stowmarket Police team who captured this footage of officers in action - after they suspected illegal tobacco and vapes were being stored and sold on site.

We then used our legal powers to obtain a three-month closure order from the court to protect the local community and prevent further harm.

Well done to constable Wagtail and the team 👏

If you suspect sales of illegal tobacco and vapes, please report it to trading standards via @citizensadvicecharity's consumer service on 0808 223 1133 taken in Stowmarket by @midsuffolk

Did you know if you smoke 10 cigarettes a day you’ll save around £2,500 per year if you stop!

Feel Good Suffolk helped Bob to stop smoking. In this clip he explains how the money he saved helped him make the decision to retire early. 😊

What an incredible evening last night, celebrating the launch of our medieval barn!

We gathered around the table to share a delicious meal, prepared on site by our team. Performances by the East Anglian Storytelling Festival made the night all the more special, and we heard brilliant speeches from our Director Jenny Cousins and Leader of MSDC Andy Mellen.

The restoration of the barn has been made possible thanks to generous funding from @heritagefunduk, @midsuffolk, @dcmsgovuk, @westonfdn and Pilgrim Trust.

The Barn is where your visitor experience begins. Come and discover this wonderful medieval building for yourself. by @midsuffolk

There's more to cutting large expanses of grass than you might think! 🌱

Changing ground conditions caused by variable weather, different ground levels and surfaces, slopes and trees, and different types of cuts for our wildflower meadows, are just some of the things that require our operatives to adapt our approach and tools over the grass cutting season as Paul explains

Every year our 58-strong public realm team cut 2,421,804m² of grass on our land, covering 197 towns and villages, around six times a year (🌿 equivalent to over 2,000 football pitches worth of grass! ⚽️)

Our operatives are now completing final cuts ahead of the winter, when our attention will turn to our winter land maintenance such as hedge, shrub and tree trimming while the plants are dormant - cutting them back helps them regenerate better in the springtime 🌸
