𝐺ℎ𝑜𝑠𝑡 𝑆𝑖𝑔𝑛𝑠…
A faded and weathered advertisement typically painted on a wall a very long time ago. But at Mighty Fine Signs, I create 𝐵𝑟𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑁𝑒𝑤 𝐺ℎ𝑜𝑠𝑡 𝑆𝑖𝑔𝑛𝑠 like this one recently completed in St. Louis’ historic Italian neighborhood, The Hill. The owner of @amighettis wanted to use ghost signs to show the story of this restaurant that has deep roots in St. Louis. The restaurant started as a bakery in 1916!

Working from different historical references, I created this 𝐺ℎ𝑜𝑠𝑡 𝑆𝑖𝑔𝑛 with lettering styles and layout techniques that identify this sign as “from the first half of the 20th century.” It should fit in well in St. Louis, a city full of old ghost signs.
I hope y’all like it!

We brought some legibility and vibrancy back to this historic, faded, hand painted wall advertisement. Much of the sign was nearly illegible, as you can see in the last photo, but with our trained eyes and access to historical references we were able to replicate the old graphics and lettering pretty well.

Particularly challenging was the “❗️❗️❗️#️⃣🌀⭐️❗️%” lettering… we had no idea what it said! We stared at it and mapped every trace of paint until it came together. It was a fun discovery! 😂

This sign restoration was one of many restored with my best bud @alyx_ky - love you Alyx!

“Make it simple, but significant.”
I don’t know who first said that line, but it’s a great prompt! Significant - that’s what I strive for with your signage. I know each business owner is putting forth significant effort - time, money, passion, risk - and I want their signage to reflect their efforts.

When I told her I’d like to do a “dynamite” aka “powder puff” job on her storefront, an aluminum finish made by dusting aluminum powder over wet paint, she saw my enthusiasm and was all in.

Get yourself some delicious food from lovely humans @eggstl !
Thank you to the crew at EGG for asking me to design and make this window sign for your Benton Park location.
This sign features mirror and satin “real gold leaf” alongside hand painted elements. It’s exciting to see my design brought to life with such beautiful materials.
Working on site, I’m very focused on handling the materials and getting each step done correctly. Amid the focus is a stream of pleasant conversations with staff and customers, this time which included a retired sign painter and a comedian. It is always a rush to finally clean up my work area and look up at the finished sign.
