Four musicians. Different cultures. One shared journey. ✨
Meet the @viatoresquartet: @louisarosestaples and @johannesbrzoska on violin, @miguelerlich on viola and @umutsaglam.cellist on cello.

At the 2026 ARD Competition, they won First Prize, the Audience Prize and the prize for the best interpretation of @camillepepin_____’s commissioned work. Their awards also include the @genuinclassics classics, Klangerlebnis TÖLZ Winners’ Summit, GEWA, Henle Urtext and @marillon_stagecouture special prizes, plus a concert tour arranged by Impresariat Simmenauer.

Their backgrounds, experiences and cultures set them apart – and bring them together. Each arrived with a different story; as travellers, they found a shared path in music. That idea lives in their name: “Viatores”, Latin for “travellers”.

WE WON THE 75th ARD INTERNATIONAL MUSIC COMPETITION! 🏆✨

We are still trying to find the words for what happened in Munich this past week.

It is an incredible honour to receive the 1st Prize of the 75th ARD International Music Competition. We are equally overwhelmed and grateful to have received in total 8 special prizes, including the Audience Prize, Genuin Classics Award, Marillon Concert Attire Award and the prize for the best interpretation of the commissioned work by Camille Pépin, whose piece “Impermanence” we had the privilege of bringing to life.

We are also very much looking forward to our prize winners concerts, which will include Tölz Winners’ Summit festival and a concert tour organized by Impresariat Simmenauer from March 4–22, 2027!

We are deeply grateful to the amazing jury, the ARD, BR Klassik, all the wonderful people behind the competition, and everyone who came to listen, supported us, and believed in us throughout this journey.

And most of all, thank you to everyone who has accompanied the Viatores Quartet on our journey since we began in 2023.

Thank you, Munich. ❤️

What was already an incredible week at @ayvalikmusic took an unexpected and unforgettable turn at @pur_cunda, where we had the great joy of recording the second movement of Bartók’s String Quartet No. 2 with the wonderful tonmeister @pietersnapper

A heartfelt thank you to Erce and Özlem Kaşlıoğlu for their warm invitation and generous hospitality in opening their beautiful space to us.

MAY = ✅ DONE!

Last month we had the joy of performing TEN concerts with several different programs across many wonderful places and festivals.

Among these concerts, we were especially happy to take part in @schwetzinger_swr_festspiele , @kulturguthasselburg , and @proquartet_cemc , and incredibly grateful to share these experiences with so many audiences along the way.

One of the greatest pleasures of this month was also collaborating with dear colleagues @hanaquartett , @absalonquartet , and @quartet_integra , including the chance to perform the octets of Mendelssohn and Éric Tanguy, as well as Brahms’ String Sextet together ✨

Now, after an intense and inspiring month, we are looking forward to a summer filled with new projects, travels, and music making, with exciting journeys ahead in Italy and Türkiye 🌿🎻

Where to begin…

The last two weeks have been one of the most special and unique experiences of our lives. As part of the prize we received at the Banff International String Quartet Competition, we had the incredible opportunity to spend two weeks as ensemble-in-residence in the beautiful Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in the Caribbean.

Thanks to the generous support of David and Christine Anderson, their foundation, and the Grenadines Initiative, we were able to experience this extraordinary place through concerts and meaningful encounters with the local community. In particular the visits to local schools and the wonderful students we met along the way were especially memorable moments of our stay, we feel very grateful to bring our music to their classrooms and to experience their excitement for string quartet!

We are deeply grateful to the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, David and Christine Anderson and everyone who made this unforgettable journey possible.

We are excited to open a new chapter for the Viatores Quartet as we officially welcome violist Miguel Erlich! From the very first rehearsals, his artistry, creativity, and musical depth have been a true joy to experience, and we cannot wait to share with you what we will discover together as we explore the quartet repertoire and grow in the years ahead.

Please join us in welcoming @miguelerlich
to the Viatores Quartet! 🎻✨

At the same time, we would like to thank Gordon Lau for his meaningful contributions during the first three years of the quartet’s journey. We are deeply grateful for his dedication, musicianship, and all the energy he invested in shaping who we are today. We wish him all the best for his future.

Thank you for having us @pianosalon_christophori at your extraordinary venue!

Had a particularly fun time rehearsing and playing an all-Dvořák chamber music program with these legends (not afraid of using @the_tamb_man ‘s vocabulary here).
