Dear Mom,

I’ve dreaded this day for six years now and I prayed it would never come. Selfishly I wish you were still here with me. Looking through these pictures it’s hard to believe I can’t see your face or hold you again. I’ve never known or thought about a life without you in it. Throughout all of my big moments you’ve been there by my side whether it be in person or through the phone. You fought like hell for so long, pushing forward just to see me grow up and achieve my dreams. We still had so much more to see and do together, but I will do everything in my power to keep going for you. You taught me to never stop fighting even when life continuously knocks you down. I’d be lying if I said I was ready for this, but I find peace knowing you’re free from the pain and suffering. I hope to one day be as loving, kind, hardworking, and determined the way you were. I’ll forever miss our Kid Laroi jam sessions on the way to Brusters and the hundreds of car rides to and from baseball games.

Back when we started this cancer journey in August of 2020, we were told you wouldn’t make it through the year. I’d be remissed if I didn’t thank Dr. Sohl and his team at Northside Hospital for helping give us damn near six extra years together. Those years will forever be some of the most memorable and formidable of my life. I remain thankful for all of our highs, lows, and moments of fear and joy. I’m proud to have been your rock as you were mine. I tried to always be fearless for you, but you taught me that without fear there is no courage.

You can finally rest and join your mom and dad in Heaven. You’ve achieved everything there is to achieve in this life on earth and you’ve earned your spot with God. I will thank Him every day for gifting me you as my mom, and for molding me into the man I’m continuing to become. While I feel this gaping hole in my heart, I know you’ll be watching over me and I can’t wait to see the signs you leave everywhere around me. Mom, I trust the plan and I will be okay. I hope to honor you with the rest of my life and I can’t wait to see you again. Until then, I love you my Cherish.

This is Dr. Cooper, my mom and I’s favorite pastor. We were fortunate to meet with him and hear his words in the midst of a very difficult time. I will forever be grateful for the impact he’s made on the both of us over the years. There hasn’t been a Sunday where she’s not watching Dr. Cooper preach.
When I moved to Louisville, my mom and I would spend every Sunday morning on FaceTime while I’d make breakfast. We’d be talking for hours but once 11:00 came, her focus and attention was all Dr. Cooper’s. I’d be telling her the best story I possibly had but when church came on, the world went on pause.
We couldn’t ask for a better vessel of the Word at a time when we needed it the most. I will forever be grateful Dr. Cooper was able to be with and pray over my mom during her last day on Earth. I believe in my heart it’s just what she needed to fully let go. His sermons will keep me going the way they kept my mom going every Sunday morning.
We are so fortunate to have him speak at her Celebration of Life Service on Friday September 4th, 3pm at Mt. Paran Church in Atlanta. 2055 Mt. Paran RD NW, Atlanta, GA 30327.
