THEY DON'T PUT THIS IN THE JOB DESCRIPTION 😂🧺

We asked Coach Mike Apple, two time NJCAA National Champion and Athletic Director at Sandhills Community College, what duties he has as a coach that nobody talks about.

His answer?

Laundry.

Every. Single. Day. 😂

And not just any laundry, Coach Apple is separating the whites from the colors, making sure everything comes out right. Been doing it so long that his wife had NO idea how good he was at it until he told us on the podcast. She knows now, Coach. She knows now. 👀

But then he said something that stopped us in our tracks.

He sweeps the floor before EVERY practice.

Not because nobody else will do it. Not because it's in his contract. But because he wants his players to SEE that their head coach, a two time national champion, is just as bought into that practice as they are. Before a single basketball is touched. Before a single player walks through the door.

THAT is leadership. 🙏

No cameras. No highlights. No glory. Just a championship coach with a mop and a message.

This is the side of coaching at the small college level that nobody talks about. No big budgets. No army of staff. No one to hand things off to. You wash the clothes, you sweep the floor, you drive the bus, and then you go out and compete for a national title.

And Coach Apple has done all of it. Twice.

Great coaches don't just delegate. They develop.

In this episode of Life on the Road: A Coach's Journey, Coach Mike Apple of Sandhills Community College breaks down what it really takes to empower your assistant coaches and step back with confidence.

His formula is simple but powerful: train them first. Make sure they understand exactly what you want and are comfortable teaching it. Without that foundation, letting go is nearly impossible.

Coach Apple also shares the story of Larry Shields, a childhood friend turned assistant who committed to learning the system inside and out, teaching it exactly the way it was taught to him, and deferring to the head coach every single time. Even in the grocery store.

That's loyalty. That's trust. That's how staffs win together.

🚨 IT'S TUESDAY AND WE'RE DROPPING HEAT! 🚨

The new episode of Life on the Road: A Coach's Journey is LIVE and this one hits DIFFERENT. 🎙️🔥

Coach Mike Apple of Sandhills Community College has been quietly doing something SPECIAL in Pinehurst, North Carolina for over a decade and today the world gets to hear his story.

Think about this for a second…

He walked into a junior college program in 2011 and won a National Championship in his FIRST season. 🏆

Then he came back EIGHT YEARS LATER and did it AGAIN. 🏆🏆

Not once. Not by accident. TWICE.

500+ career wins. 5 Region X titles. 2x Coach of the Year. A home court record so dominant that opposing teams already know what's coming when they walk through that door.

But here's what makes Coach Apple truly special when you ask him what he's most proud of, he doesn't talk about the trophies.

He talks about the 35 young men who left Sandhills and went on to four-year colleges.
He talks about the kids who found direction when they had none.
He talks about what basketball is SUPPOSED to be.

This is the episode you send to every coach who thinks winning and developing people are two different things. They're not. Coach Apple has been proving that his entire career. 💯

🏀 NEW EPISODE DROPS TUESDAY! 🏀

This week on Life on the Road, we sit down with one of the most decorated coaches in junior college basketball history — Coach Mike Apple of Sandhills Community College! 🔥

Coach Apple isn't just building a program — he's building LIVES. As both the Head Men's Basketball Coach AND Athletic Director at Sandhills, he's turned the Flyers into a national powerhouse from the ground up.

Here's why you need to tune in:

✅ 2x NJCAA National Champion (2012 & 2020)
✅ 500+ career wins as a head coach
✅ 2x NJCAA & NABC Division III Coach of the Year
✅ Led the nation in scoring - 103.6 points per game
✅ 35 players developed and transferred to 4-year programs

But what really sets Coach Apple apart? His VP of College Initiatives said it best: "His two national championships are far less important to him than the success his players achieve after they leave."*
That's what this show is ALL about. 🙏
