Did a thing today! Closed on the first investment property 🏡

Getting that first home as a business owner was a painful process, but got it done and got an amazing deal on a 5BR with a huge yard! Swipe for pics ➡️

#tbt to #burningman several years ago when @antiautomation & @laurenauerbach and I were riding our bikes around the Playa. We saw a random huge trail of lit up bikes following a music car and decided to follow it. We followed it out to the edge of Playa and @tychomusic played an amazing set overnight as the sun came up. Hundreds of people dancing for hours in the middle of nowhere. As the sun came up, hundreds of us started doing a sunrise Yoga routine outside the barrier before Tycho called us back inside to finish off the morning. The best vibes 🙌🏻 I’m ready to go back by @mikeauerbach

3 years ago today a former business partner had a conversation with me that led to the imminent failure and breakup of our business. At the time I was crushed and angry about how it ended, and totally unsure of what path to take. But that directly led to the founding of 2 other businesses that are both on pace to be monsters - and that path would never have opened up had we stayed the course. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Thinking back on that uncertainty and anger I felt 3 years ago - while this crazy election is going on - reminds me of one of my favorite stories. Whichever side you’re on, I think you’ll get the point:⁣⁣

There is a Taoist story of an old farmer who had worked his crops for many years. One day his horse ran away. Upon hearing the news, his neighbors came to visit. “Such bad luck,” they said sympathetically.⁣⁣
“Maybe,” the farmer replied.⁣⁣
The next morning the horse returned, bringing with it three other wild horses. “How wonderful!” the neighbors exclaimed.⁣⁣
“Maybe,” replied the old man.⁣⁣
The following day, his son tried to ride one of the untamed horses, was thrown, and broke his leg. ⁣⁣
The neighbors again came to offer their sympathy for what they called his “misfortune.”⁣⁣
“Maybe,” answered the farmer.⁣⁣
The day after, military officials came to the village to draft young men into the army. Seeing that the son's leg was broken, they passed him by. The neighbors congratulated the farmer on how well things had turned out.⁣⁣
“Maybe,” said the farmer.⁣⁣

Withhold judgment because Nothing is ever good or bad, but thinking makes it so⁣⁣

What tense are the conversations you normally have? Past, present or future? It’s amazing how every conversation with high level people is almost always centered around the future - unless they are telling you how they solved a problem in the past. Had an awesome @aretesyndicate meetup in C’oeur D’Alene last weekend. Get yourself around a squad of killers like these and think bigger 🌎

Had a weekend escape to this vibey cabin to detach, read and focus on the next stages of business and my role in them as we evolve. It’s too easy to get bogged down and be “busy” in the day to day. I think it’s vital to lift your head up to the 30,000 foot view to keep things moving as they should. I think this is something needed every 6 months. .
Also of note was Maya’s first encounter with cows - she definitely thought they were Lions - and I didn’t have the heart to tell her otherwise. She spent a solid 4 hours letting them know who was boss. taken in Texas Hill Country by @mikeauerbach
