This is 16! I'm writing this as Alexia takes her driving test -- and my brain is flooded with wonderful snapshots of her --
walking around with her on the UWS, holding her little hand; watching her dig for seashells at the beach; enjoying one of her 50,000 visits to a Disney park; enjoying ourselves on vacation, and so many other incredible memories.
Alexia, I'm so incredibly lucky to be your dad. You have such a beautiful heart, you are curious, smart and brave enough to push past your comfort zone. I love watching you become this amazing young woman -- even though it's all happening way too fast for my liking 🤣🤣😫😫

I'm a fairly late arrival to the ONE PIECE phenomenon. When I was hired to write the official "Making of" book on the @netflix live-action adaptation, I immersed myself as much as I could into all things One Piece. I quickly realized why it's so beloved.
Which is why im saying that I absolutely MUST get my hands on the @Nike One Piece collab sneaks. The Gomu Gomu or the Ope Ope's -- doesn't matter. Sneaker Gods, please don't forsake me!

There comes a point when birthdays stop becoming something you can't wait to celebrate. That happened for me a few years back because I've made quite a few turns around the sun.
Strangely, birthdays and everything that comes with it started to mean more after that ...the texts, posts, the handmade cards from @alexialeiaavila & @talia_avilaa (complete with killer drawings by T), the killer breakfast @chefcindi made for me...having friends over for cake and a little bourbon (ok, that was mostly me).
It all made for an awesome day.
Thanks to everyone who reached out to remind me that I'm old :) by @mikeavila

CONGRATULATIONS to the entire Avila family! What a beautiful night celebrating Talia’s Bat Mitzvah! A special shoutout to big sister Alexia for bringing her fun, loving sister energy and making the celebration even more memorable. Mike & Cindi, thank you for making me feel like family. Sharing so many special moments with you and your guests was truly an honor, and I’m so grateful to have been part of such an incredible evening. NOW!! to the star of the show!!Talia! If you visit Seattle, I highly recommend you visit MoPOP, the Museum of Pop Culture. An absolutely incredibly journey through popular culture's biggest tastemakers, rule breakers and icons. Loved the tower of 700 guitars, and the Jimi Hendrix exhibit (Jimi abroad) is worth the price of admission. The remains of the guitar he smashed and burned at the Monterrey Pop Festival is there, along with the Strat he played at Woodstock....there's Michael Jackson's jacket he wore when he moonwalked for the 1st time at the Motown awards, Wizard of Oz costumes, the hero sword @schwarzenegger used in Conan, original works of fantasy art... I mean, they have a model of the Death Star from ROTJ and Kirk's command chair from Star Trek TOS. Also, the horror exhibit was loaded with genius pieces like the Xenomorph from Alien. They even have @officialtriciahelfer 's iconic dress from BSG and some comic art from the original Galáctica comic . But beyond the great collection of relics was how they showcased each realm of pop culture and its impact. The hip-hop exhibit detailed how it resonated beyond music and into society. Walking through the museum, you got a sense of how all this art we absorb through so many ways, can change lives. taken in Mopop by @mikeavila
