From script to metal.

When you need an insert shot to instantly establish a discreet, high-end business, fake finishes won’t cut it under cinema glass.

Designing and sourcing a set piece like this doesn’t usually fall to the director, but in indie filmmaking with tight budgets, every dollar counts. And when you have the design background to handle the specs yourself, taking it on is an easy call.

Swipe ➡️ through for some BTS pre-production work on my upcoming horror short, EFFIGY:

1. Finished fabricated plaque with milled, raised lettering

2. The original script scene description

3. The rough mockup sent to the fabricator (making sure “raised letters” was clear)

4. Paper scale test

5. Quality and craft check on video with the real metal piece
