Here’s an oldie but a goodie.
This was probably about 2 weeks from now- 32 years ago. Shot on a disposable at the Cook Inlet Processors floating dock/buying station in the mouth of the Kenai River.
Noting:
-I am holding a female, semi bright King salmon that probably went 45+ lbs.
-The river is coming close to high tide (20+ ft) and on the flood.
-I had just offloaded a set-netter that had come in to deliver (on the tide).
-You can see the fleet isn’t fishing, several gill-netters still on their cans out front.
-My dock is visible behind me.
-That thing on the pole is a fish pump vacuum chamber. We hardly ever used it, it beat the cuh-rap out of the fish.
-My crane on the left (white).
-on the downstream side of the dock is tied up one of our beater tenders.
-The truck parked out in front of our office (in blue) was George’s: he was running the show after Sharn got shit canned. Made of dried leather, cowboy boots, tan western snap shirts, tobacco juice, and squinty eyes behind coke bottle transition wire rimmed glasses, George was the foulest mouthed human being I ever met. I fucking loved him.

I can almost smell this picture: the river, inlet, tidal mud and wet concrete, fish slime, gasoline, the slight gunpowdery hint of ash left over from the eruption of Redoubt three years before, and that lovely camel in the corner of my mouth… taken in Kenai River by @mikedessner
