Ongoing Project - Been quietly shifting my personal work toward a single idea: Place.

Not just geography but the stories that live in a landscape. The rituals people bring to it. The meaning that accumulates over generations.

I was welcomed by locals from the mainland to swim in a bay they had visited for generations, drawn by the belief that minerals carried down from the mountain gave the water healing properties. No study I could find verified this despite their insistence. But still they swim, every morning and every evening, together, as a people. 🇻🇳 by @mikeleethomas

They say in life if you can find a true friend, you’re a truly rich man.

Today has been at the forefront of my mind for a while. The truest friend I have is more than a friend, more than a best friend even. He transcends that… he is, and forever will be, my brother.

I’ve thought about writing this for a while. Do I talk about the man who makes room, time and space for every colour, shape and size of a person? Who so selflessly champions, celebrates and supports those around him? Who holds a light up to everyone else, and sometimes needs reminding how much of that light is his own?

Or do I talk about the man who holds more belief in you than you can in yourself? The man who becomes the glue when your heart’s broken, holds your film together when it falls apart and drives through a snow blizzard to be a caterer? A man who calls you out on your sh*t, builds a mould infested studio with you, drags you to men’s groups, listens to you talk in circles and somehow has the patience and clarity to know what you’re on about.

Or do I just tell him directly… that Andy, my life is a truly wonderful existence, in every shape and form, because you are in it. And I know so many people who are equally rich for having you in theirs.

We’re so different, yet bound by something I think neither of us could ever quite put into words. How lucky I am to get to ride alongside you through this journey of life. To know that the love and respect I have for you is mutual is indescribable.

Sometimes I think, imagine if you hadn’t messaged me to make that stupid f*cking music video…

Happy 40th, my brother. Let it rip.
