POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
A message from Junie (and me).

October is Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month, and this month is deeply personal for me.

On August 24, 2006, I was 17 years old when I suddenly went into cardiac arrest.

I had no idea it was coming. My family had no idea. And the people around me weren’t prepared for what was happening.

Thankfully, a volunteer EMT named Bob immediately started CPR and kept me alive until the ambulance arrived.

I survived.

I learned that I had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a heart condition that put me at risk for sudden cardiac arrest.

That experience changed the course of my life.

It’s also why I wrote A Big Heart.

My story is about surviving the unimaginable, discovering a purpose in a second chance, and learning how to live life with a bigger heart.

Throughout October, I’ll be sharing more of my story and why awareness, CPR, AEDs and knowing what to do in an emergency matter so much.

For SCA Awareness Month, A Big Heart is 15% off with code OCTOBER.

Two minutes that capture what happens when sports, community, and a shared mission come together. ❤️🏀

We’re incredibly grateful to Andre Drummond for partnering with In A Heartbeat and inviting us to be part of the Andre Drummond All Stars Camp.

Andre, thank you for believing in our mission to prevent death from sudden cardiac arrest and for helping us bring CPR, AED education, EKG screenings, and heart health awareness to the next generation of athletes. Providing campers with EKGs, along with hands-on CPR and AED education, allowed us to take an important step toward early detection and lifesaving preparedness. Your willingness to use your platform to make a difference means so much to us.

A huge thank you as well to our incredible volunteers from Quinnipiac University for showing up, educating, and helping make this day possible. Your passion and commitment continue to make a real impact.

This is what partnership looks like. This is what community looks like. And this is how we change the odds.

Thank you, Andre, and everyone who helped make this day unforgettable. ❤️ taken in Yale University by @mikepapale

Love when my guy @floogs__ says it was a full morning!

A full-body strength session with plenty of volume, followed by a conditioning finisher.

Warm-up
• 2 x 1 min Row
• 2 x 10 Inchworms
• 2 x 15 Bodyweight Squats
• 2 x 10 Hand-Release Push-Ups
• 1 x 10 Prone Wall Slides
• 1 x 30 sec DB Single-Arm Overhead Carry

Strength

Super set 1
• Barbell Front Squat: 4 x 8
• Deadbug Single-Leg Drop: 4 x 10

Super set 2
• Barbell Incline Bench Press: 3 x 8
• DB Bulgarian Split Squat: 3 x 10

Super set 3
• DB Half-Kneeling Single-Arm Press: 3 x 10
• Step Downs: 3 x 10

Then Hunter decided we hadn’t done quite enough…

Finisher — 3 rounds
• 12 calories SkiErg
• 12 DB Squat Thrusters
• 12 Push-Ups

A pretty “full” morning indeed. Strength, core, single-leg work, conditioning — checked all the boxes before the day even got going. taken in Stamford, Connecticut by @mikepapale

Thinking about walking Manhattan from top to bottom? 🗽🚶‍♂️

We walked 16.33 miles from Inwood to Battery Park and honestly, it was one of the best ways to experience the city.

📍 Our route:
Inwood → Washington Heights → Upper West Side → Central Park → Park Avenue → Broadway → Flatiron/Union Square → NoHo → SoHo → Tribeca → Financial District → Battery Park

☕️ Our stops:
• Parked at Sherman Garage in Inwood
• Started with coffee at Buunni Coffee ☕️
• Stopped for lunch at Milano Market near Columbia University 🥪
• Finished at Battery Park
• Celebrated 16+ miles with a good old-fashioned NYC slice of pizza 🍕😂

🚶‍♂️ Bonus tip: We did the walk during Summer Streets, when NYC closes portions of certain streets to cars and opens them up to walkers, runners and bikers. It made the experience even better — especially getting to explore the city without the usual traffic.

📊 The final stats:
16.33 miles
34,204 steps
5:37 moving time
843 ft elevation

If you’re looking for a fun NYC challenge, put this one on your list. Start early, wear good shoes, bring water, plan some food stops and give yourself the whole day to enjoy it.

Inwood → Battery Park. 16+ miles. One island. One very well-earned slice. 🗽🍕

Would you do it? 👇
