Thursday - See my family, hold my squishy nephew.

Friday - (after more nephew snuggles & fam) I got to see one of my small group students get married and celebrate with more small group kiddos!

Saturday - Learning from @mzmarsh2k about therapy and then got to celebrate one of my former students getting engaged with a bunch of my other students all grown up! And long overdue girl time with one of my dearest friends!

Another week of ministry in the books!

Co-drove a van from KC to Mountain TOP in Tennessee and worked with a team of students and volunteers in leading a day camp for kiddos in the neighborhood. We drove an hour each morning and afternoon to pick up and drop off kiddos and went on a field trip every day after lunch. My favorite part was seeing students lead the Bible story and discussion so well that by the end of the week, the littles knew that God created light, Jesus is the Light of the world, and that each of us can shine a light as well!

We went to a courthouse and learned how judges and juries are supposed to work…

We went to a fire station and learned how to adventure into nature safely (the children, not me. I still dont do nature.)

We went to a state park and learned some history.

We went to a beautiful college campus for a scavenger hunt, but it was called The University of The South and that gave me the ick considering we were surrounded by previously and currently active sundown towns—lest anyone think the past is in the past. (And my coworker spotted a confederate flag on the worksite where he served. So.)

Thankfully we had leaders with us who remained vigilant and protective for everyone’s safety!

The week ended with us driving into active tornado weather and having to pull into a gas station in a downpour that lost power the moment we arrived while tornado sirens blared. So we huddled in the back hallway near the bathrooms for safety, and then had to take the long route home because the police had blocked off highway entrances for safety and debris and accidents were everywhere.

My favorite student quote of the week: “Chat, we’re cooked, Mikiala gets her weather updates from Twitter!” (I do, the meteorologists tweet moment to moment!)
