I added up what my twenty-minute daily commute in YYC is worth. And spoiler alert, it’s 333 hours back a year, 13.8 days…. (yes, really)

Eighty minutes sounds like nothing until you know what’s inside it. Daycare pickup at 4:30, at the park by 4:40. Home before dinner. It’s ultimately the difference between being stuck in survival mode and genuinely thriving.

And it isn’t only the commute that makes being a working mom in Calgary that much easier. My parents are twelve minutes away, so when a meeting runs long (or I don’t want to cook dinner), it’s a quick text instead of a crisis.

Every minute I’m not in traffic is a minute more we’re together, probably outside at a playground, splashpark, dog park, exploring a new neighbourhood or venturing to an ODR. And this city gives us 333 days a year where outside is always our first option.

333 hours less spent in traffic.
333 days of sun. (I didn’t plan that, it’s the actual math.)
Zero plans to leave Canada’s Blue Sky City.

so many new faces here 🥹🥹 hi! I’m Mikenna. My friends call me Mik, my family calls me Kens or Kenners, but my favourite title will now forever be “Mom”

Motherhood rocked me to my core & challenged everything I ever thought i knew about myself. But it turns out I like this era of me more than any other before it.

My other full time job is in influencer + social media marketing, so I’m about as chronically online as you can imagine, until I’m in mom mode, then good luck getting a hold of me.

A few of my favourite things, in no particular order: Saturday brunch, a slow lap around the mall, tropical Red Bull, a 5-minute makeup routine, Barry’s, sitting at the gate before a flight, spontaneous date nights, a Sunday afternoon nap, and that first big chug of water at 4pm when I realize I haven’t had any all day.

Oh, and I have multiple sclerosis. I’ve been living with it since 2019, and for a long time I woke up every day *very* aware that I was sick. These last ~3 years I’ve been well enough that it’s finally not always top of mind, and that’s such an incredible privilege that I don’t take lightly.

I spent far too long assuming I’d have to leave to build the career I wanted. Then the possibilities started presenting themselves, most times through people I knew!

I planted roots so I can pick my daughter up while it’s still light out and have my family 12 minutes away. Because here, it’s possible to build a career and still be on time for daycare pickup.
Twelve years in Canada’s Blue Sky City and I wouldn’t change a thing.

I had the wildest gender disappointment when we read “girl”. All we knew was boys, both having much younger brothers, so I truly wasn’t sure what to do with a girl. Now, I can’t imagine it any other way. 🩷 by @mikritch

And that’s on finally finding my personal style 2.5 years postpartum 🥲

Not to get corny about it but I’ve wanted to invest in my personal style for as long as I can remember but I felt so confined to wear what was ‘trending’. Maybe it’s becoming a mom but I literally cannot fathom dressing for anyone else but myself now and that’s made me more excited than ever to get dressed, and to buy pieces that will LAST in my wardrobe, not just be that season’s fad.

And I’m bringing you along with me hehe (so thanks for watching my first OOTD video!?!)
