But my ultimate inspiration comes from my best friend, the dazzling woman from whom I received my name and my life’s blood.
My mother never gave me any idea that I couldn’t do whatever I wanted to do or be whomever I wanted to be. She filled our house with love and fun and books and music, unflagging in her efforts to give me role models from Jane Austen to Eudora Welty to Patti Smith. As she guided me through these incredible eighteen years, I don’t know if she ever realized that the person I most wanted to be was her.

Our story began in December 2023. Back then, we were just friends very good friends. We would text each other, mostly sending cat pictures, and even though nothing was happening between us yet, you were already becoming someone special to me.

Between December 2023 and September 2024, you crossed my mind so many times. Still, I never had the courage to take the first step. Then, in September 2024, I created a new private account, and you were the very first person I added. Without even thinking twice, I thought of you.

End september 2024, we started talking more again. After almost a year of being friends, I finally realised how kind you were, how precious you were, and how much you truly meant to me.

On November 1st, 2024, you asked me to be your girlfriend. These are still the flowers from that time, the flowers from the moment our friendship turned into something so much more beautiful. They may have dried with time, but the memory and the love behind them never will.

In January 2025, we finally saw each other in real life for the first time. I still remember looking at you and thinking that you were the most handsome, adorable, and perfect person I had ever seen.

You are the first person my parents truly got to know, and in my heart, I hope you will also be the last. My father absolutely loves you, my mother loved you so much, and you have been there while my brother was growing up. Your parents have always loved me and treated me like their own daughter, and that means more to me than words could ever explain. ❤️

You have seen me during my happiest days, but also during my darkest and most difficult moments. You have seen every side of me, the strong one, the vulnerable one, the happy one, and the broken one and you still stayed.

I love you more than I could ever explain. You are not only the person I love, but also my best friend, my comfort, my safe place, and the person who makes everything feel a little less heavy.
I am so grateful that you are in my life. No matter how much time passes or how far apart we are, my heart will always find its way back to you.
