An Unperformable Performance

This concept envisions a nude woman, enclosed within a crystalline cube, situated in global “hot spots,” where control over women’s bodies is most severe. The performance culminates in an attempt by women, on both sides of the glass, to reach out and touch each other. The piece explores the duality of bodily autonomy and the dichotomy inherent in women’s bodily sovereignty, emphasizing the conflict between personal agency and the cultural forces that restrict, women’s freedom to define their own identities.

The photograph also depicts women in burqas from Sar-e Pol province, where a woman was killed for visiting a pharmacy to purchase medicine for an infant with a fever, thereby violating the Taliban’s ban on women entering public spaces without male relatives. by @milerobot
