seasonal report: spring 2024

feeling like the newtown creek — existing in both the expansive natural world and the frenetic urban world!

a couple of amazing visits to the Adirondacks at @dacksyurtcollective, one for the total solar eclipse and another to build a second yurt! both were profound and enlivening.

busy busy busy serving free tea and building community via @theteastandnyc. just launched a membership program for it! i wanna do it forever!

also: lindenwood diner with the roomies (godly tiling in there), bollywood bingo made by @akvashi24 (the brains + bedrock behind everything), dia beacon + newtown creek nature walk with @naqiyamoti (my favorite person to do anything with) taken in Newtown Creek by @miles.about

QUARTERLY REPORT!

jan — march, 2024.

explored Turkey for two weeks with @naqiyamoti! hot air balloons, backpacking along the Lycian Way, and infinite cats and tea.

embraced the cold during a restful few days at @dacksmountainyurt! unfortunately the only way to see snow as a nyc resident. chopping wood, sitting by the fire, and reading as much as possible.

celebrated two years in brooklyn! went on some big ole bike rides! spent so much energy on @theteastandnyc!

introducing “the right place” — a celebration of our relationship and the cape’s role in it :) full video at the link in miles’ bio, full poem at the link in naqiya’s bio!

during a week-long visit last year, miles recorded all the footage and naqiya wrote the accompanying poem. we stitched everything together over the course of many months, resulting in this video!

the cape is where we first truly met — a 24 hour visit back in 2021, sowing the seeds for our loving relationship.

overflowing with love following today’s walk — the first of many birthday saunters / walkabouts (torn on the name… share thoughts pls). i’ve never felt so secure and at peace celebrating another year around the sun and that’s thanks to y’all 🧡

the last photo is from the very beginning of the day — a collection of birthday cards and a cup of coffee at my favorite cafe. the best start to a day i can imagine. thank you @naqiyamoti for coordinating the cards (and the hand painted tea tin to boot!) and thank you all who shared such life-giving words.

this october marked my one year anniversary of quitting my job. crazy! i took the month to listen, reflect, and reset.

🪞

i could feel the beginnings of burnout the first days of october; “time off” is a tricky concept when you’re your own manager (and the employee). my week off culminated in “the medley”, an annual gathering of friends involving competition, ceremony and constant giggles.

days later i lost my childhood cat, kiwi. saying goodbye was devastating, and it helped me realize how disconnected i’ve become from my youth. through therapy, writing, and time with family, i’m working on starting a new conversation with my past self.

driving down to asheville with my grandpa in his old truck (no music, no maps allowed) to visit my cousin lexi was a highlight of the month. we spent the weekend identifying trees, drinking tea, and enjoying a global arts festival.

i’m excited for november. my vision for @theteastandnyc has grown clearer and bolder, i plan to finally read “the creative act” by rick rubin, and i feel at peace saying farewell to summer (it’s been holding on for too long).

a pic a poem a pic, a pic a poem a pic. it’s my first time sharing an original poem :o

i wrote “halfmoon drizzle” after driving thru a new york town called halfmoon on a rainy day. since a kid, i’ve loved watching the raindrops on the car window. that day, the traveling drops reminded me of a painting by Friedrich Hundertwasser i have hung up on my wall, titled “The Endless Way To You” (slide 3); this connection inspired the poem

the hydrogen pic and poem is from an exhibit by RA Walden titled “access points // alternative states of matter(ing)” which was on display at @stormkingartcenter this summer. an artistic highlight of the year so far!

the first pic is my bud Pete during our very special five day backpack in tonquin valley in jasper national park. more to come from that trip later…
