I had such a fantastic experience composing for and performing with the incredible City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong @ccohk1 for their spectacular Space Fantasy show last month. Huge thanks to visionary writer director Leanne Nichols and my composer compadre @lunapanmusic for being such delights to work with. Every performer and creative in this project was an absolute superstar and I thoroughly enjoyed being teleported out of my usual musical world into this classical space disco fantasy universe! I also had the honour of speaking and giving a theremin demonstration at the Hong Kong @philharmonicclub which was also super fun. Please enjoy these photos of me wearing actual colour in the incredible costume by @twinnycheng and enjoying it (but don’t tell the goths). taken in Tsuen Wan Hall Auditrium by @miles__brown

The Night Terrors - Levitation
Second single from @thenightterrors new album ‘Hypnotica’. Limited edition LP / digital available to preorder via @disdainrecords666

Video by @_bl00dsp0rts_
Titles by @fraserahrt

Australian electro-goth legends The Night Terrors return in ethereal mode with their fourth album ‘HYPNOTICA - Composition for Theremin and Electronic Music Synthesizer’. Featuring the haunting theremin melodies of Miles Brown, vintage horror synthesisers, and hypnotic dark wave rhythms, The Night Terrors have earned a reputation as one of Australia’s most unusual and original acts. HYPNOTICA sees The Night Terrors return as an all-electronic duo. Brown is joined again by synth warrior Sarah Lim to deliver a deeply cinematic album of haunting emotional electronics.

I’m very excited to announce my debut Hong Kong performances! I’ll be playing theremin with the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong @ccohk1 on 29/30 August as part of their ‘Space Fantasy’ outer space musical spectacular.

I’ve composed a sci-fi piece for theremin, synth and orchestra, which I’m proud to present alongside the fabulous work of orchestral electro soundtrack composer @lunapanmusic . The show is created and directed by Leanne Nicholls, and is sure to be very special indeed.

THEREMIN: In Conversation with Miles Brown (@miles__brown).

Of all electronic musical instruments, the theremin still captures the imagination like no other. At MESS, we house perhaps one of the last theremins built by Theremin himself in New York circa 1933-4. The origins of the instrument date further back to the late 19th century and have a peculiar connection to the race to develop television. Early versions were almost adopted by Lenin as intruder detection systems for the Kremlin.

Few have become truly brilliant players of the instrument, which, despite Theremin’s dreams of an instrument anyone can play, is fiendishly difficult to master. In Melbourne/Naarm we are lucky to have in our midst one of those very few. And so, on the anniversary of Leon Theremin’s death, we welcome Miles Brown – a legendary figure in this city – studied with Russian theremin virtuoso Lydia Kavina, a direct relative of Theremin himself, and joins us in conversation to discuss everything from Science Fiction sounds, Horror scores to the history of the theremin and, of course, his own musical journey with the instrument.

Killer Aussie supernatural horror film @latenightwiththedevil_ opens in Australian cinemas today! Starring goth horror icon David @dastmalchian and featuring yours truly on theremin (and a sneaky cameo), this is seriously wild ride from the brilliant Cairnes brothers. Don’t miss it in cinemas!
