Happy winter solstice! To celebrate, here is an image captured from the summer solstice on Mt. Hood exactly six months ago. Words can’t describe how stoked I am to see this photo in print as a double page spread, massive thank you to @_katielo for selecting this one for the contents page of @theskijournal issue 18.3! What started off as a wild idea a couple of years ago, came to fruition with a ton of planning and hard work between skier @miles_kemph pilot @tylercarr.cfi and myself.

Also a huge shoutout to @lily.krass.ritter for the copy editing in that rather long caption I submitted. I could write a novel about how this was planned, but with Lily’s help, it’s down to one paragraph and hits the nail on the head!

For some behind the scenes, check out the video (different angle of the exact moment) captured by @erik.hokkanen in slide two. If you listen carefully you can hear the end of my countdown on the radio for Miles’ drop. Slide three was my last sight of the plane before Tyler popped out the other side of Illumination Rock. With maybe 1/4 second of a window to nail the shot, we pulled it off on the first try and I’ll be forever stoked on the outcome.

As the saying goes “it takes a village.” And for this shot, it most definitely did. taken in Mt. Hood, Oregon by @miles_kemph
