In an effort to heal and reclaim our narratives, we have put a lot of emphasis on generational trauma. I would like to challenge this because what you stress, you perpetuate it’s existence in your life.

I want to encourage you to make a shift.
Consider instead, your generational gift/s.

My great aunt, Victorine Hamilton-Campbell, this pearl adorned milf before you, was the 1st midwife in Spanish Town, Jamaica assigned to do home deliveries. This was usually done by the Public Health Nurse. She is on record to have helped bring into the world over 10,000 babies during her 45+ year career. She even broke a record by having 1003 house calls in one year, with only 4 being taken to the hospital due to complications. Her births totaled 999 babies for that year, another record never met by any other. As a Senior Registered Midwife, she orientated and guided numerous, newly graduated Midwives. In 1981, she continued her practice in a private facitity which she built at her home. I remember visiting this home and her speaking of her practice.

I’d like to think now, that in some small way, that made an impression on me as a kid and lends to how I support moms today.

This is posted in gratitude to Aunt Sis, as our family called her. I am thankful for the foundation she laid before me and I accept the generational gift of service to women on their maternal journey.
