While Poland’s Independence Day repeats itself as an annual parade of nationalist and fascist sentiments, we’re gathering for the 4th time already to flip the script—celebrating a Polishness rooted in subversion, nostalgia, and a bit of delicious cringe.
The party will be photographed and recorded.
Come early and stay with us until 10 PM, because this is when we close our doors.

Good news for lesbians with IBS!(and as we know every hot girl has IBS)

Besides vegan and gluten free options, Dana will provide some low FODMAP dishes too.

What can you expect?
A lot of fresh herbs, stir fry veggies, meals with pumpkin and sunflower seeds hidden so well that you won’t even know, rice noodles in rich sesame sauce and definitely some soup echoing Dana’s Eastern European childhood. And there might be a vegan lasagne too… only if y’all behave though!

Dana (she/her) is a performer, cook and community builder who uses food as a medium of care.

⟡ qutie blast coming at your feed 💘 QUTIE* is an international training on decolonial queer education, and we just hosted its second edition in Bern, Switzerland, focusing on using drag and performance.

Huge gratitude to our amazing quties who participated and brought their fierceness and vulnerability to the stage, our facilitators Jara and Hassandra and the team who cooked, cared and documented the whole journey, and the @sciswitzerland team for the amazing hosting and collaboration

Currently taking ideas for the next versions, what should we focus on? Another one on drag is always possible 👀

You’ve probably never heard of this drink before, but Polish grandmothers have been brewing it for generations.

Meet Susz – a traditional polish kompot made from dried and smoked fruits.
Our grandmas believed that drinking Susz on Christmas Eve would bring longevity throughout the coming year, and that every fruit carried its own meaning:
🍎 apples for love
🍐 pears for strength & prosperity
🫐 plums for protection

Beyond the symbolism, it’s packed with minerals and is famously good for your digestion!

So... is Berlin ready for a Polish kombucha? 🍐👀

You might still think it’s a little strange to serve a Christmas drink during a heatwave, buuuut...

Slavic food feast star nr.2 is Dana Hirschova.

Dana is a social practice artist who mobilises mutual aid tactics to perform rituals of care and embody her manifestation that Slavic is the new queer. She takes inspiration from Slavic folklore and hydrofeminism. In her practice she often uses food as a medium of community.

For Strebergarten, Dana with support of @maciek.paciek has taken on an important mission:
To make Berlin finally fall in love with bób.

For those unfamiliar, bób is the beloved Slavic summer bean: earthy, buttery, nutty, and deeply nostalgic for many of us who grew up waiting for its short season to arrive.

The number one thing the Polish diaspora in Berlin complains about every summer is that you can’t find bób or jagody anywhere in the shops.
You might think they’re just beans and berries — but you’d be very, very wrong.

These two ingredients shaped our collective memory of what summer in Poland tastes like, and we’re beyond excited to finally bring them to Berlin.

Jagody are wild forest bilberries with a uniquely intense flavour. We’ll be serving them inside pierogi handmade by our very own Babcia Kasia.

Bób — the earthy, buttery, nutty fava bean we all wait for every year — will be treated with care by Dana Hirshova. @milf___international

And that’s not all. Alongside these seasonal favourites, we’ll have a few delicious surprises waiting for you.

30th BDAY celebration announcement

I am not a larvae anymore. My twenties are behind me, my hair has never been longer, my body has never been juicier and I have never been happier of being alive. Come join me at the Devils Lake and let’s celebrate that we reached this point.

POST TRADITIONAL FOOD POP UP

As always on Sabbath we will welcome you with a table set with food that tastes like our homelands.

For the rural communities of Eastern Europe the end of winter always meant hunger. While the reserves are gone and the new harvest still yet to come, peasants would fill their stomachs with any weed that already made it through the snow. They would also make up the leftovers of wheat, potatoes or sauerkraut.

We owe many of our comfort foods to the working class. The physical survival of our ancestors under the centuries long exploitation by the nobility was possible thankfully to certain plants as well as fermentation bacterias they collaborated with to preserve the harvest. What we see now as a nostalgic dish was once the invention of the oppressed ones, a peasant stubbornness to live.

We wanna cherish the efforts of previous generations but with our sensitivity. What we prepare is definitely a glowed up reveal of tradition, its yassified version. Menu will be announced soon. Stay tuned. One thing is sure - it will be well fermented.

Meet our DJs

KAROLINDA @karo____linda is a musical project by Karo Linda, a queer interdisciplinary artist from Katowice, based in Warsaw, Poland. Her DJ sets are dynamic and eclectic — driven by deep bass, strong beats, and skittering rhythms. She explores a wide range of music genres, such as deconstructed club, UK bass, jersey club, dubstep, hard drum, fidget house, EDM trap, baile funk and everything in between and around. She has performed at numerous events both in Poland and abroad, including festivals like Sanatorium of Sound and Ephemera Festival. Since mid-2023, she has been co-creating the DEKONSTRUKT collective.

Post-Polish Independence Day

We would be rather embarrassed than proud of being polish, especially when it comes to the Independence Day that has a form of annual festival of fascism. But we know that wherever we go we will bring this luggage with us so let’s reclaim what’s inside. Every year we meet to cherish the cringe and nostalgia of growing up in a semiperipheral postcummunist country between Europe and Russia.
