I’m Zera Ng, and I have a little story to share. I just completed my debut at KL Fashion Week, and first of all, I’d like to thank each of you who took the time to attend my show on a busy Monday! When I think of how wonderful the show turned out, it brings tears of joy to my heart. Many of you may know that MILKSHAKE is my new brand that I decided to launch after closing the previous womenswear brand I founded 10 years ago due to various internal challenges. This new journey hasn’t been easy. I struggled for a full year, debating whether to start a new brand or not. If the answer was yes, it meant a whole new level of commitment and challenges lay ahead. If the answer was no, I knew I’d live the rest of my life with deep regret because fashion and art have been my core passions since I was a little girl. At the beginning of this year, I took my new brand concept and design sketches to Andrew, seeking his advice and sharing my struggles. The warm encouragement he offered was so powerful that it gave me the confidence to start all over again. Not long after, I received the invitation to KL Fashion Week 2024 to showcase my new work—a brand that truly speaks who I am. As a one-woman show, I had to handle every single task by myself. From conceptualization and design sketches to sourcing materials and liaising with three professional production teams, I made sure the garments looked exactly how I envisioned them. During the seven months of preparation for KLFW, I faced high stress, sleepless nights, three panic attacks, and fell ill numerous times. ( I’m grateful to have a bunch of good friends who took me out for crazy parties! That helped me find balance. ) Now, looking back, I can’t believe I made it through. It wasn’t easy, but I never considered giving up. Whenever I faced obstacles, I’d go out and party first, then tackle the problem the next day. Day by day, I worked until the project was completed. There’s a will, there’s a way. Thank you @klfashionweek once again for bringing me to the esteemed platform!
