How has Mill Ballet School impacted you?

“The Mill Ballet School has been with me since the very beginning of my dance journey and is a huge part of why I am the dancer I am today. My teachers have always given me the perfect balance of motivation and constructive criticism that has helped me grow not only as a dancer, but as a person too. They’ve pushed me just the right amount by challenging me to improve without ever pushing me over the edge. When I’m at summer intensives or open classes outside the studio, I’m always reminded of how lucky I am to have undergone such thorough training. The Mill has prepared me with such a strong foundation and I’m so grateful for all of the instruction they’ve provided me over these years.”

How has dance impacted you?

“I think dance is a very telling art. After spending hours sitting at a desk at school, scrolling on social media, and just overthinking, dance forces you to put all of that aside and be in the moment. There’s no room for outside thoughts like drama going on at school or how you have to write a 500 word essay by midnight, you’re too focused on how your body is moving. Dance serves as an escape from reality where you can simply focus on breathing and looking as graceful and effortless as possible. That’s what I love most about dance, the fact that I can forget about the frustrating or stressful day I’ve had, and just express my feelings with people who are going through the same thing. Dance has impacted every part of who I am, I wouldn’t be me without it.”

What are your plans after graduating?

“After graduating high school, I plan to attend college as a dance major in New York City, Pittsburgh, or Boston where I’ll receive my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. I hope to eventually reside in New York City to pursue dance as a career, specifically in contemporary and modern dance, and if the opportunity arises, travel around the world performing.”

What’s some advice you’d give younger dancers?

This week, we’re celebrating National Dance Week by sharing the joy of dance with the people we love! Stop by the studio to pick up your special Class Pass and give it to a friend! Each pass is good for one friend to join you for one class through the end of October at Mill Ballet School. Whether your friend has danced before or has never stepped into a dance studio, this is the perfect opportunity to introduce them to your dance family and show them why you love being part of Mill Ballet School! Pick up your pass, invite a friend, and let’s celebrate the joy of dancing together! ✨

How did Mill Ballet School impact your life?

“Mill Ballet has taught me perseverance. I remember when I was younger and wanted pointe shoes more than anything, and I would stay after class to talk with Mrs Roxey about how I was progressing and what I could do to keep improving. She and all of the teachers here have encouraged me to keep working hard in order to reach my goals, and they have shown me how far a good work ethic can bring you. Things won’t always be easy, but when you’re struggling, the best thing you can do is keep going and not let the hard times bring you down.”

What do you plan on doing after graduating?

“I plan on going to a four year university to major in English on a pre-law track. I hope to eventually go to law school and become an attorney, ideally in civil rights law or public policy! And of course, I hope to continue dancing in college for as long as I can🩰🩷”

How has dance impacted your life?

“The best thing that’s come out of my dance experience is the community. Through dance, I’ve been able to find some of the most genuine relationships and meet some of the most important people in my life. What may have started as barre chats or mid-rehearsal Wawa runs have become lifelong friendships. I’m so grateful to dance for bringing me to the people who have shaped me into the person I am today!”

What advice would you give younger dancers?

“Do your best to live in the moment. Don’t waste the time you have worrying about what you can’t control or what might come next. None of us will be able to dance forever, so make the most of every minute you’re at the studio and live it to the fullest. It sounds cliché, but time really does fly!” by @millballetschool

📸 Photo dump! • Today, Roxey Ballet’s Trainees performed “We Run” at the Travis Manion 9/11 Heroes Run, honoring the strength, service, and sacrifice of our military and first responder community.

We were also honored to share The Belonging Project with military families, veterans, and friends. ❤️ Veterans and their families are welcome to join us this January for a fully funded movement therapy program created to bring people together through movement, connection, and community. Know someone who would benefit? Share this with someone you love and fill out the interest form at roxeyballet.org/thebelongingproject.

We are so proud of this group of people and this team. Join our community and let’s make a difference!

Today, our Mill Ballet School trainees showed that strength goes far beyond the studio. ❤️🇺🇸 Despite the rain, our dancers came together to perform at the 9/11 Heroes Run with the Travis Manion Foundation, honoring the heroes and remembering the lives lost on September 11th. They danced through the rain with courage, pride, and purpose, proving that even when the circumstances aren’t perfect, we can still show up, stand together, and use our gifts to honor something greater than ourselves. We are so proud of each and every one of them! 🇺🇸🩰

What has mill taught you over the years?

“Over my years at Mill Ballet, I have learned the importance of putting in the work myself and relying on others to support me. Dance is both an individual and team sport. I learned to look out for and push myself to ensure I was working my hardest and achieve that higher level of training which I am pursuing. I also learned to allow others to help me so I could improve things I couldn’t see or understand in and about myself.”

What has dance done for you in your life?

“Dance has given me an outlet. An outlet to escape my everyday life and an outlet to express myself. Sometimes the best thing for you is to let everything else go and focus on one thing. One of my favorite things is walking into the studio knowing I have the ability to move my body and listen to and feel the music. The freedom which I feel in the studio has been the greatest escape and lifesaver for me.”

What do you hope to achieve after graduating?

“Post graduation, I plan on majoring in dance with a ballet concentration, working toward a bachelor’s degree. Eventually, I hope to dance and perform professionally with a ballet company.”

What is some advice to give to younger dancers growing up through the school?

“My best advice to all of my younger dancers is to work hard. Not every day will be easy and you may not be motivated or want to go to dance every day, but the harder and more you work, the more you will see it paying off. And, of course, have fun in the process!” by @millballetschool

#senioryear #dancelife #millballetschool #newhopepa

What are your future plans?

“Next year I plan on going to a four year university and getting a degree in elementary education, and eventually i hope to become a teacher!”

(Currently Mimi is a teachers assistant at MBS for the lower levels. She assists Ms. Melissa as well as Ms. Mirabel)

“Dance has impacted me by showing me my greatest creative outlet i’ve known. I love being able to make art in this medium as well as share the creations of others, and I take great pride in my work i’ve done as a dancer.”

What is some advice you’d give younger dancers?

#seniorszn #dancerlifestyle #millballetschool #newhopepa

What has Mill Ballet taught you over the years?

“Mill ballet school taught me that dance is deeper than positions and lines we make with our bodies. It’s a beautiful art that helps us connect. Connect with our friends, with our teachers, with the community, connect different parts of our body to make something mesmerizing and meaningful. Dancing here with all of my teachers and friends made me realize that we all have our strengths and challenges, we all have something to give to a community, and dance helps us connects every part. Additionally, teachers here made me realize that there is in fact beauty in the basics, in how you position your body, what muscles you activate, the correct pathway for steps, and also that a good attitude is key for a good dance day!“

What has dance done for you in your life?

“Dance has given me many things, but it has mostly left me with a sense of responsibility, determination, and belonging. Stepping into a dance studio requires sacrifice and commitment. It’s something I’m passionate about, so of course I did it happily, and it gave me so much more than what I thought I was going to get. One of my favorite things though, is bonds. My best friends have been made through dance: through backstage jitters, shared hairspray, being happy for others even if they got the role that you wanted, celebrating each other’s milestones or improvements; all of these moments that you only get as a dancer and I will be forever grateful for it.”

What do you hope to achieve after graduating?

“In college, I want to do my undergraduate in cellular and molecular biology. I want to minor in dance and go into the medical field! My dream profession at the moment is pediatric oncology or oncology pharmacology reaserch!“

What is some advice to give to younger dancers growing up through the school?

“Don’t compare yourself to others. Many say that progress isn’t linear, but it’s also not the same for everyone. Every class pick a small thing that you want to focus on: your arms, your balance, your turns, by @millballetschool
