What if the fear of being seen is the very thing keeping you from being whole?
In this week’s How To Battle Podcast with @CarlosVasquezOfficial, poet and educator Angela Aguirre @millennialmija shares how growing up in recovery circles taught her to face fear, embrace courage, and turn healing into art.

This one’s for anyone who’s ever felt called to create, speak, or step forward—but held back by that voice whispering, "Who am I to do this?"

🎙️ Feel the Fear - and Do It Anyway with Angela Aguirre

Thank you to @LegendaryFoods, @BoxUnionStudio, @AlchemieSpa and @YouthChampionsOrg for their support of this podcast.

My OG Baddie Irish-Italian mother Pamela June Antonacci on the right and my Nina Deborah on the left at Deb’s wedding in the 90’s 🤎✨Growing up I used to watch my mom get ready. In my eyes she was the most glamorous woman alive and I wanted to look just like her. I was a little bit of a tomboy as a kid into middle school but I remember when picturing myself as a grown up I was always all glammed up looking just like my mom 🥹 I can still see her there in front of the mirror with rollers in her hair holding a cigarette. With the whole apartment smelling like expensive hairspray and Chanel no 5 lol when I was in high school I loved looking at (and taking) all her perfumes and jewelry and purses and sunglasses and pretty clothes. Those were all just part of who she was and still is. And she passed the love of all those things down to me ✨ I love finding pictures of her like this looking exactly how I remember because sadly we don’t have that many.🤎✨ ps. I just discovered that my mom responds to all my instagram posts through Facebook 🥹✨Love you mommy thank you for showing me the art of glam ✨ I miss you so much and can’t wait to have you back in California where you belong ☀️🌊🌴 by @millennialmija

Last Friday I hosted my first ever @gostars_org girl’s night for my mentees and I’m in love with how cute it turned out. Since we started in 2024, we’ve had guest speakers, sound baths, craft activities, and discussed everything from ice raids to breakups. The goal of my group is for girls to feel seen, supported, and celebrated. Getting to know them and becoming someone they trust has been a process for sure. But it’s also been a privilege that has taught me a lot about myself. This Summer I went to my second Quinceañera of the group 🥹 Being invited means the world to me and says a lot about what our small group is turning into. This Summer, I had an idea to organize a girl’s dinner and journal workshop. I told @intersectionalaim about this idea and she made sure I had the support and resources from @gostars_org to bring the vision to life. My goal was to speak life into them and encourage them to use their journals as tools to help them process whatever the year throws at them and to give them some cute things to help them feel prepared. I reached out to community for help and as usual the women showed up !! 🥹 THANK YOU @belladonala for the planners and @rizoscurls hairsprays. THANK YOU @mollyjburch for the @glossier perfumes. THANK YOU @nancylitteken for the “just in case” bags that came with hair ties, tissues, headbands, mini hair brushes, travel toothbrushes and other little essentials that help girls feel more confident at school. They were so appreciative and loved everything so much 🥰 This event was 100% powered by community and I really hope we can turn it into a back to school tradition ✨ taken in Pasadena, California by @millennialmija

Will never be over this. The way this came together so organically last minute was something very special to be a part of. The way we used our time and shared resources in the hours we spent getting ready together was something so beautiful to witness. We shared make up, hair spray, hair, jewels, lashes, and accessories freely so that we all looked and felt our best 🥹 it was sisterhood and community at its finest. Congratulations to every single designer and model. Every single person killed their looks!! Thank you @corissahernandez @nativohlp @wearemitu @shopwss @donjuliotequila @buchananswhisky ✨ May the creative energy we generated that day power all the artists involved into their next creative projects and beyond. Truly honored to rep NELA modeling for @shopmivida ✨ I am so so proud of you both!! @noellereyes and Dom!! Thank you for including me, friends 🤎 taken in Highland Park by @millennialmija

Yesterday I was the special guest speaker at the substance abuse program graduation at CIW. Same place my mom was processed in 1983 before serving her 5 year sentence. They even showed me the building she was held in and I just stood there staring at it for a while. I’ve heard stories over the years but I’ve never thought too much about her time inside… but being there and meeting those women made me reflect and feel emotional. Especially when seeing some of their tears as I read my poems. With two formerly incarcerated parents, the fact that I’ve never seen the inside of a prison for any reason til yesterday is its own blessing. But to go there as an invited guest with the purpose of sharing my poems and a message of hope for women like my mother was something truly special. A full circle moment that I will never forget. Proof that the decisions we make to change our lives have ripple effects on the generations that come after us. Proof that cycles can be broken. Thank you, mom 🤎 I love you so much and I hope I made you proud taken in Chino, California by @millennialmija
