![Orangeblur (0490) / Orangeblur & Black two-tone leather/fabric interior (Z1XX) (E36-PLCI) Z3 M Coupe - Millenium Edition (1 of 1)
No better way to start 2026’s posting regiment than with something epic. A truly unique 1 of 1 project, for a lucky individual, by BMW Technik GmbH, a car many collectors have chased. During the year 2000 in Germany, Auto Motor Und Sport magazine held a contest which would select one lucky winner to be granted an incredibly special allocation to the [then] new (E36) Z3 M Coupe but, with a twist. This car would be worked by special teams at BMW Technik utilizing paint, materials & various customizations that were slated to be developed & adapted only once. The lucky winner & still kind owner, Dirk, was given the option of 3 colors; Gunmetal, Insect Yellow & the color he chose - Orangeblur. All off chart 0490 colors. A Titanium Silver (354) car was shipped to Munich from good old Spartanburg and thus the 4 month project began. The car was dismantled entirely within its own designated area and reassembled with new, one off BMW Individual goodies. On the inside, a mesh fabric matching the exterior color was used throughout from door panels to seat centers accompanied by black Merino leathers. I personally love the tiger striped seats & the use of mesh altogether. Special insignias were added to the dashboard, doorsills & trunk lid all reading; ///Millenium. Later that year in May, Dirk went to the ‘Mobile Tradition’ (now BMW Classic) sector at BMW Welt to take delivery of this one-off clown shoe. What a moment this must’ve been. A couple of fun facts in regard to this machine, there was meant to be extraneous use of carbon fiber but viability testing said no. The irony here is that BMW would later go onto to be a huge carbon fiber producer not just for themselves, but other OEMs. The other fun fact is that Dirk went onto be long time buddies with the project manager of the Millennium Edition Z3 program, to this very day! We all know cars most times come with eventual friends & I can appreciate that. The BBS RCs were also fitted at the factory 🫰🏽.
