It's been over a month since we all camped together in a field to create this earthen temple in honour of the birds- the herons that nest in the branches overhanging the lake behind the stage, the starlings that danced in the sky above us, and all our other intelligent and cheeky feathered friends that play such an important role in the network/ ecosystem of life!

As beautifully captured in this video, building with natural materials is deeply personal to me. It connects me to this innate process of arriving to new lands, entering visceral conversation with the animate beings who already inhabit the space, gathering/ relocating/ alchemizing the materials and ritualistically co-creating structures together. It is a process familiar to our ancestors, regardless of their specific geography.

It’s a beautiful process but it’s also hard graft! Working long hours doing manual labour in UK’s record-breaking heatwave and drought is gonna bring some stuff up (and remind one why we do natural building!) A lot of transformation occurs when a collection of 20+ people, who are all on some unique journey of living authentically, are thrown together to make art. I'm so grateful for the way we all held each other through it all.

So grateful for the morning circles, cuddles, playfulness, laughter, and medicine that you all are! Grateful for how hard we all worked and for how we let ourselves rest. You are all gorgeous creatures with a special place in my muddy lil heart! <3

A costume made for Isa van Lier for the opening of her many-faced temple Lumina.
This coat feels to me like a uniform for a temple builder, and it was worn accordingly.

This year Het Rare Rijk opened its doors once more to the friendly folks of Circusbende. We played, we fell, we cried, baked cookies and uttered not a single word of coherence

The four of us we were fools for a few days. We caused chaos and minded our mischief and oh did we have fun :)
Shout out to my dear performers Meike, Bob and Twan for bringing my costumes to life, as well as all those at the Cosmic Willow Portal for the beautiful nature playground that became our stage.

Just as summer succumbed to autumn, we 3 gathered at the very tip of England where this island meets the endless undulating of the Atlantic. It’s not a place of softness or harmony, but a clashing of the elements, the border between two worlds. We spent our days wandering the shores and the high cliffs and collecting treasures revealed by the outgoing tide. Sometimes bones, limpits, crab shells, sometimes the rusting corpse of a ship. We sang out to the seals and they listened, as we listened to what this landscape had to say in return.
We spent our nights sewing, painting, casting and tending the fire (accompanied by our beloved David Attenborough).

And only when a yellow weather warning had finally been issued, we decided to put on our costumes and frolic

It was a pleasure @rubypaint.tings @marthanash_ , my loves, thank you a hundred times for this little slice of magic we shared

An ode to Fly Agaric (continued)

This is an ode to loving the land while we still can, and supporting those who have had that ability forcibly severed from them, my heart goes out to you. My heart also goes out to those on the Flotilla, namely my dear @mary_finn, your actions of solidarity are inspiring. Take action my friends, write to your MPs, attend protests, find your route to activism in whatever way that is

Free Palestine, and free the minds of anyone who perceives this as normal or ok

An ode to Fly Agaric (Amanita Muscaria)

This last year I began learning more about herbs and their medicinal properties with the @seed_sistas , and it was then I was given the opportunity to deep dive into who Amanita is. Within the learning process, this plant facilitated a lot of quick fire change in all corners of my life and thus this costume was born. Amanita grows both in the UK and in The Netherlands (and in a lot of the Northern Hemisphere), particularly in birch and beech forests, and their white spotted red caps can can be found pushing through the forest floor at this time of year.

What a privilege it has been to be able to connect to this plant and the forests that cradles it, to be free and safe to love this landscape as if it were my own body, to be able to grow food from the soils where I live, to listen to the birds that sing here and watch the creatures that make their homes alongside me. It is a gift, however ordinary that gift is, to be able to visit that same forest, that same tree over and over again and climb through its branches that hang over the river, it is an ordinary gift to walk to the sea unhindered and know the rocks and the tides like kin. It should be an ordinary gift to be able to connect to the landscapes that we call home, to share the beauty of a land loved and lived in by our fellow humans and non-humans. And yet this ordinary gift of living in and loving and tending the land on which you’re born apparently is no longer a given. Today more than ever I think of the murdered, tortured and displaced Palestinians , the souls who will never be able to return to their twisting tree or river or hilltop or home or arms they hold tenderly in their heart, they will never have the ordinary gift so many of us do because of greed and war hungry leaders. Tonight I think of all those staring up at the moon. I think of how the same we are in this gazing, yet how different the lands and experiences of those on which her light glows (cont)

Watching how the stars spin, noticing how we all orbit together

Kaleidoscope Waltz is my most recent work and my first try using motors and mechanisms. What a load of fun (and patience) it was! This work feels like a marker of the first big work since graduating and will forever be the first step into the big wide world, thank you @tijs.zonder.h from @volkshotel for believing in me!

This work can be seen this very moment in the restaurant, @canvasopde7e, of the Volkshotel! Go drink some tea and look at the stars above (inside and out) 💫
