Today my 4 year old asked me, “Mummy, why is your tummy squishy and mine isn’t?”

I said, “Because my body has grown and changed, and it has carried two beautiful babies.”

And instead of feeling self-conscious or spiralling into all the things I wanted to change, I just felt peace.

I’ve spent most of my life being hard on myself. Picking apart my body, overthinking everything, wondering why my brain never seems to switch off.

But I’ve worked so hard over the past couple of years to see myself differently. More recently, I’ve been looking for answers, learning more about how my brain works and figuring out what’s good for me and what isn’t.

And actually, the more I learn about my messy, colourful brain, the more I love it. Yes, it overthinks, gets overwhelmed and rarely switches off, but it’s also creative, curious, full of ideas, feels everything deeply and notices beauty everywhere.

Maybe I’m finally learning to see my body for what it’s done, not just what it looks like, and to give my overactive mind a little more grace, love and understanding too. 🤍 by @milliew.art

With Halloween approaching, I thought I’d share a little throwback to my Zombie Eye! 💚

I created her during an incredibly challenging time, when I felt like a zombie myself, as though overwhelm was draining the life out of me and I couldn’t see a way out. Painting was a way of letting some of those feelings out.

I still love her, and I love how each of my eyes captures a different mood and time in my life. My eyes have definitely improved since the red one, I’ve got the urge to create another eye, so watch this space… hopefully something a little more positive this time round! ✨

You don’t get to choose how other people see you, but you do get to choose what you do with what you’ve been through.

There’s something really powerful in taking the things that were meant to knock you down and turning them into something beautiful.

Art has helped me express parts of my own story in a way words never really could. It’s given me somewhere to put the emotion, and it’s healed me more than I can explain.

That’s what I hope my Art and Photography can help other women too, a way to tell their story, feel seen, and feel completely celebrated for who they are. 💗

Spotlight on this beauty this evening, “Surrender” ❤️🩷

I’ve always been someone who feels things deeply, and I’m learning that there’s a difference between allowing yourself to feel your emotions and allowing them to consume you.

Not every feeling needs fixing, not everything is within our control, and sometimes the kindest thing we can do for ourselves is to simply let things be.
