#MAGClassics | A remarkable rediscovery in French art history

Marie-Guilhelmine Benoist’s “Une jeune fille chantant pour son père” (1804) has set a new world auction record for the artist, achieving € 415,500.
Exhibited at the Salon of 1804 and long considered lost by scholars, this monumental painting remained in the same Catalan family collection for more than two centuries before its recent reappearance on the market.
Its rediscovery sheds new light on one of the leading female painters of the Napoleonic era and highlights the growing recognition of women artists within the art market.

#MAGPopCulture | Original comic art and rare collectibles auctioned in Paris

Launching on April 19 is the first joint sale between Millon Paris and Il Ponte Casa d’Aste, dedicated to #ComicArt, featuring over 300 lots including original comic pages and rare comics selected from Milan, Paris, and Brussels.
Among the highlights of the auction are 10 rare lithographs signed by Hergé (€18,000–22,000), the cover by Ralph Meyer, “Undertaker, Tome 1, Le mangeur d’or” (€20,000–30,000), the work “Spider Eye” by Mr Garcin (€30,000–50,000) and a selection of drawings by Milo Manara from the volume “Quarantasei”, dedicated to the legendary world motorcycle champion Valentino Rossi.
A landmark event where comic art steps beyond the page to claim its place at the forefront of the international art market.

Among the standout moments in 20th-century design, the console designed by #OsvaldoBorsani and #LucioFontana for #CasaG in Milan (1947–1951) reached €435,200 at auction. This astonishing console shelf is one of only three known examples, each differing
from the others, yet all conceived by Borsani and Fontana between the late 1940s and 1951 as part of a coherent poetic vision of the domestic interior. These are, de facto, unique pieces, custom variations on a single design concept, each created for a specific room in three distinct Milanese residences.

Tomorrow marks the auction of an exceptionally rare preparatory drawing by Daniele da Volterra (1509–1566), pupil and close friend of Michelangelo, created for the fresco of the “Assumption of the Virgin” in the Church of Trinità dei Monti, Rome.
A direct testimony to his collaboration with Michelangelo at the heart of the Italian Renaissance, this study of the head of a young apostle, executed in metalpoint and black chalk with white highlights, offers an intimate insight into the artist’s creative process.
The drawing was discovered in the Nantes region by Paul Marie Musnier, previously attributed to Andrea del Sarto, and authenticated by the Cabinet de Bayser, becoming a rare opportunity for collectors and connoisseurs: bid now to own a piece of Renaissance history.

#MAGClassics | An extraordinary rediscovery

On Tuesday 25 November @artcurial__ and #Millon are proud to present a long-lost masterpiece: “David Contemplating the Head of Goliath” by #GuidoReni, a remarkable 17th-century painting that had disappeared for more than two centuries.
This work, of striking dramatic intensity, once belonged to Duke Francesco I d’Este, who acquired it directly from the artist, and later to Prince Eugene of Savoy, the celebrated Imperial general and architect of the Belvedere Palace in Vienna. During the Napoleonic campaigns, the painting was brought back to France by General Dupont de l’Étang, before vanishing for nearly 230 years. Recently rediscovered among his descendants, the work marks the return of a key masterpiece in the history of Italian Baroque art.

#MillonVietnam is proud to support the publication of the book « Nam Sơn (1899–1973) – L’Héritage des Beaux-Arts de l’Indochine à travers documents, archives et presse » by Ngô Kim Khôi (grand-son of Nam Sơn).

This monumental work, in two volumes and three languages, is the result of twenty-five years of #research by Ngô Kim Khôi and is based on unpublished family archives, historical documents, and museum collections, paying tribute to #NamSơn, a key figure in #modernVietnameseArt and co-founder of the #ÉcoleDesBeauxArtsDeLIndochine in 1925, alongside #VictorTardieu.
