Millwall Romans, Millwall FC’s LGBTQ+ football team, is calling on Premier League and EFL clubs to adopt or create LGBTQ+ inclusive teams as new research reveals 41%* of all football fans in the UK believe football clubs across the top four Leagues should have one, with this figure rising to over eight in 10 (83%) among the LGBTQ+ community

In collaboration with the team’s lead sponsor, @helloromans, the campaign will include a series of billboards, a panel event and the launch of the Pride Playbook - a practical blueprint designed to help clubs establish and support LGBTQ+ inclusive teams.

Together, these initiatives aim to unite LGBTQ+ teams, scouts, and Community Trust CEOs to move beyond conversation and facilitate the official adoption of teams by professional clubs.

While several clubs offer various levels of support to non-affiliated LGBTQ+ teams through kit and branding, Millwall FC stands alone as a pioneer, supporting and promoting both Millwall Romans and Millwall Pride throughout the season, as well as integrating them within the Community Trust set-up.

New analysis shows it is not just a social imperative, but there is economic opportunity to be uncovered too, with nearly two thirds (65%) of UK LGBTQ+ adults stating they would be more likely to watch football games at a team’s ground if they had LGBTQ+ initiatives.

As a key part of the campaign, the Pride Playbook brings together guidance, best practice, and real-world insight, from Millwall and third parties like @football_v_homophobia , to help clubs build long-term support structures for LGBTQ+ teams and create environments where every player feels genuinely welcome from day one.

Our teammate Billie is fundraising for gender-affirming surgery, and we’re asking you to help her get there:

“I fell in love with Millwall the first day my dad took me to The Den, though I had no idea how much the club would mean to me over the next few decades watching Tony Craig to Tristan Crama.

Some 20 years later, many warned me I might struggle at The Den as a trans woman. But what I found was what I think Millwall have always known about themselves — we all bleed blue, and we look after each other.

So when FA decided to ban trans players, I was reminded of Millwall Romans as a place that could be for me. While I still wear a piece of my red London Galaxy sock to keep the team I’d still be playing for with me, I am so proud to wear the lions badge. While my usefulness varies, I run my arse off (this was the Millwall way for a long time, after all!). Joining has been a real silver lining to a really painful situation.

I’m now fundraising for gender-affirming surgery, and I’m asking for support.

I work full-time, freelance and invest. I’ve been working as hard as I can for a long time, but I’m not achieving my goals fast enough. Honestly it’s taken its toll on my mental wellbeing, which has taken me a while to acknowledge. I was afraid to ask for help. It doesn’t come naturally to me, but I’ve been encouraged to keep fundraising.

If you would consider donating and sharing the link, you can find it in my bio @billie.skywalker

Thank you so much to everyone involved with the club and beyond for your love and support. COYL!”

💙🦁💙
