My new artist name is Milo McCray. I’ll be keeping this account (formerly linesoundslike) as my main IG account. For LINE-specific updates, follow @linesoundslikethis .

All music that has been released on streaming services, YouTube, and Bandcamp under the name LINE will stay where it is. I’ll be creating new pages on each of those platforms for Milo McCray songs.

THANK YOU so much to everyone who has been following along and connecting to my music over the years. I really don’t know exactly how the future will look in terms of process/genre/collaborations, and I appreciate your support so much.

Milo McCray is made up of family names. McCray is my middle name, and my mom’s last name. Milo is from Milowitz, my great grandmother’s original last name. It took me forever to land on a new artist name because I felt it needed to be something deeply personal. After sifting through a mental rolodex of all the family names I could think of on both sides, this combination of names is what felt most like me. (For the very thoughtful people who have been asking: I am not changing my name to Milo. I’m still Maddie, but you’re welcome to call me Milo as well if you want. :))

LINE, the second half of my given name, has been and still remains a precious name to me. And it’s come to mean something beyond just myself: It’s a collaboration. Even though there is a constant between the old project and the new project, in that I am the songwriter and lead singer of both, LINE songs have all been built up very collaboratively in terms of arrangement and production. I want to give a big shout out to @yr_momdad , who co-produced The Making Room with me and did the majority of the hands-on technical production work for that EP, and mixed it. @char_koz_ co-produced The Woodside Sessions EP with me and played a major role in arrangement decisions and writing and recording instrumental parts. I’ve loved getting to play with @estherchun on background vox, @millb0t on drums, @aultwill on drums, and @siboftrig on guitar, all of whom helped significantly with arrangement and writing instrument/vocal parts for their respective instruments. by @milo.mccray

I drafted these slides in January and am finally posting this now. That’s how you know how scary it is for me !! For those who didn’t know, I worked as a community health coordinator & administrator from 2019-December 2024, and left that job to pursue a music career starting in January 2025.

I really tried to write in “I” statements on these slides bc all I can really speak to is my experience, but I hope it might be helpful for someone to hear. Artists I admire have shared similar “things I’ve learned” posts in the past, which I found really helpful before I made big life changes myself.

Writing this also helped me process a lot because 2025 was one of the biggest years of change I’ve experienced in recent memory. This winter was particularly hard for me: making sense of everything, and recalibrating to a new normal in a new city (all while the state of things seems to get worse and worse politically and economically.) This spring has been devoted to a process of digging myself out of a hole of pessimism by 1) making new music and making new musician friends, 2) touching grass, and 3) reminding myself that everything is a work in progress and I grew so much even just in 2025 (see 2nd to last slide.)

I am so grateful to everyone who has come to a show, listened to my music, hosted me on tour (biiig props,) taken one of my classes, subscribed to my patre0n, and/or cheered me on in any way. This isn’t something new or something I learned this year, but it IS the most essential piece that has kept me going. THANK YOU for being here. Can’t wait to share what’s next.

October 22! I’m playing an acoustic show at @hartbarnyc in Brooklyn, in a lineup with @jacksonhardenmusic @lowgroves @rachelangelmusic . I would love to see you there!! Really excited. This show falls almost exactly on my 1 year anniversary of moving to Brooklyn, and it’s even more special because Hart Bar was the first place I ever played in New York, before moving here.

@artmageddonbk is a Brooklyn-wide festival that originated around Ditmas Park but is now happening throughout many neighborhoods in Brooklyn, on 9/27! Lots of visual artists will be showcasing their work and there will be live music as well. If you don’t have All Things Go tickets and still wanna see some great music on Sunday, I’ll be playing on the Frolic stage on Cortelyou & Stratford from 5-6pm! (Also, to be clear I love both MUNA and Carly Rae ofc and wish I could be in 2 places at once!)
