Speed kills ⚡️

On a general basis handball practice usually covers most of the running a player needs. But there’s still room for some extra work during the season, for example in national team breaks, or periods with limited playing time.

I like these intervals because they target high-velocity running. You train the body to perform at the speeds the game demands. Regular handball practice already gives a solid aerobic base, so i don’t quite see the need for easy runs on top of this.

One thing to keep in mind: running at these speeds puts a high load on the hamstrings and calves. Plan it carefully before adding it in-season. taken in Oslo, Norway by @milocoaching

This «springiness» or tendon stiffness is a quality ive seen in almost every elite wing player ive coached

It’s the ability of the calf and Achilles tendon to resist «giving» on ground contact and return energy like a tight spring. During short contacts the calf muscle works close to isometrically, while the tendon stretches and recoils. The tendon does a large part of the work, and that’s why it looks effortless.

For a wing player, this quality shows up everywhere: the last steps into a jump shot from the wing, the first meters of a fast break, and the hundreds of take-offs and landings over a season.

And its a quality you should defentily work on 🫵 taken in Oslo, Norway by @milocoaching
