I was supposed to post this on the 1st of January 2026, but somehow I didnโ€™t. Maybe because I wasnโ€™t fully comfortable sharing parts of my personal journey on social media.

As we entered the new year, I started feeling sorry for myself. I started looking at all the things I hoped to achieve by 30 and i saw no clear signs that I was close. I became frustrated with how slow my progress felt. For me, at that moment, it honestly felt like day 1.

Then I paused and reflected.

I asked myself, wait a minuteโ€ฆ I really havenโ€™t achieved anything?
I may not be where I want to be yet, but:

๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸพI learned a new sport (badminton) from scratch, competed in a tournament, and won a medal.
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ I completed my Postgraduate Program in Management with a First-Class Distinction.
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ Won a Grant worth $1000 for coming 3rd place in a grant writing and pitching competition.
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ I moved from a small box into a bigger space.
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ I won my first-ever procurement contract.

I couldnโ€™t see any of these wins because I was too focused on what I didnโ€™t have yet.

What did I learn?
Itโ€™s okay to remember what you you donโ€™t have yet, but actively remind yourself of the small (and big) achievements along the way. And if you still feel down, you will have to reevaluate the steps required to get to what you want and ask yourself honestly if youโ€™ve been taking them.

If you are, youโ€™ll feel encouraged.
If youโ€™re not, youโ€™ll gain clarity.

Either way, youโ€™re better than you were yesterday. Right? taken in Mpape, Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria by @milolo45

We did it!

It took 305 days, 7700 PET bottles filled with sand, 1140 kilometers. We never relented.

Today, over 118 households are now safeguarded from the dangers of open defecation.

The CLEAR (Community-Led Environmental Awareness and Recycling) Village Project is a key component of our broader PMWASH (Preventing Malaria with Health Education and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) initiative.

PMWASH objective is to ensure that villages like Womio, as well as other isolated and remote communities, receive comprehensive all round protection against malaria, waterborne diseases, and other common health threats.

Womio village now has a fully functional toilet and access to clean running water.

This is truly a milestone worth celebrating! by @milolo45

We concluded another successful year by recognizing our accomplishments and the efforts of our amazing team and supporters.

We reflected on our journey, from the small steps weโ€™ve taken to reach our current position to the future steps needed to achieve our goals.

A particular point of pride was the completion of a 4-unit toilet in the remote village of Womio, constructed entirely from recycled PET bottles.

Weโ€™re incredibly grateful to all our members, volunteers, partners and sponsors for their unwavering support. by @milolo45

Dear World,

I vividly recall the thrill of embarking on my first online certification course, on public health. It was an blissful prospect to uncover new knowledge, to gain insights that would empower me to implement best practices in my medical foundation.

After conquering my second certification course, "Global Health: Malaria Awareness," I couldn't resist sharing my accomplishment with a close friend. However, his response, though well-meaning, left me a bit disappointment. He inquired about the title I had earned, questioning what designation would accompany my certification.

His question, for a moment stirred a realization. Unlike an accountant who proudly carries the title "Chartered Accountant" after passing rigorous exams, there was no such formal recognition for my certification. No fancy title, no badge of honor. Just a certificate tucked away in a drawer, its potential impact unseen and perhaps underestimated.

But then, I remembered my "why" โ€“ the reason behind my pursuit of knowledge. It wasn't about titles or recognition; it was about the curiosity and desire to learn and grow in that field.

Reflecting on this experience, I came to understand that many people refrain from taking courses or embarking on learning journeys due to a similar mindset. They seek certifications for the external validation, for the perceived status it might bestow.

What if we shifted our perspective? What if we embraced learning for the joy it brings, for the opportunity to expand our understanding of the world and ourselves?

Letโ€™s approach courses not as checklists to be ticked but as opportunities for discovery, as adventures waiting to be unfolded. taken in Mpape, Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria by @milolo45

Dear World,

Malaria and WASH in Nigeria and Brazzaville

I'm writing to relate my experience and how it's made me more aware of the identical circumstances in Nigeria, where I'm from. I had the honor of visiting Congo Brazzaville and spending more than three weeks there, before traveling to Istanbul.

Aside from the sociological aspects, I couldn't help but observe parallels between the effects of malaria and mosquitoes on the local populace.

I've come to know that the situation in Nigeria is not all that different as a result of this encounter. In Nigeria, malaria continues to be a serious problem for public health because it causes a sizable number of fatalities each year. Those who live in rural locations, where there is little access to medical treatment and a high mosquito population, are particularly affected by malaria.

Yet, Brazzaville is distinct from Nigeria in terms of the scale of WASH activities. I noticed that Brazzaville had better water access and a remarkable waste management system that extended into rural regions as well as urban ones. The government put regulations into place to promote sanitation in the nation, such as a prohibition on the production or importing of plastic bags. They don't know that sachet water as we do in Nigeria or the use of plastic bags for businesses.

When I first learned about all of this, I was interested to find out if there was any connection between all of these factors and the fact that Brazzaville had less malaria incidences than many other African nations, including Nigeria. I'm doing research to determine how much Brazzaville has improved its WASH procedures and how it has affected the number of malaria cases.

I implore everyone to take action by supporting community-based malaria prevention and control activities. simple actions like using bed nets, removing stagnant water sources, and getting early treatment for suspected cases can all help to significantly lessen the burden of malaria in Nigeria and the world.

Together, we can make a difference in the fight against malaria and other preventable diseases.

Sincerely,

I am grateful for Badminton.. ๐Ÿธ

Dear World,

I'm writing to draw attention to the reality of mental health in Nigeria and why it's critical that everyone takes it seriously. Mental health is a global issue, but in Nigeria, it is frequently overlooked and stigmatized, resulting in serious consequences for those who suffer from it.

I, like many others in Nigeria, was depressed and felt hopeless and lost. Back in Enugu four years ago, I had no job, no plan, and no direction. I looked for therapists, but the fees were prohibitively high, and there were few options, particularly outside of Lagos and Abuja. However, I was fortunate to receive a call from a mental health NGO, which provided me with the opportunity to discover myself and find purpose and clarity. I'm sorry, but I don't know the name of this NGO. I'm not sure how they knew I needed a therapist; perhaps they have an AI bot that reports cases or Google searches to them. I'm sure some of my friends remember when I called them and asked about my characteristics and what they believe is preventing me from reaching my full potential; it was all part of the exercise. This two-week session saved my life and taught me that I was meant for more than a daily cycle of emptiness.

Mental health is as important as physical health. Mental health disorders are widespread in Nigeria, leading to serious consequences. Everyone deserves access to mental health care and resources. It should be treated as a priority and made accessible and affordable to all, regardless of socioeconomic status or location.

I am grateful for the chance to share my story and highlight the importance of mental health in Nigeria. I hope that my words will inspire others to take action and work towards creating a world where mental health is recognized, respected, and treated as a priority.

Sincerely,

Martins Chinedu Marvin

Dear world,

I want to share my opinion on a question that often arises when discussing the act of volunteering: "Is there such a thing as selfish reasons for volunteering?" While volunteering is widely recognized as a selfless act driven by the desire to help others, it is important to acknowledge that certain motivations for volunteering can indeed stem from self-interest.

Volunteering encompasses a diverse range of activities, including humanitarian aid, community service, and support for various causes. It is commendable when individuals devote their time, skills, and resources to serve others without any expectation of personal gain. However, it is also essential to understand that human behavior is complex, and people may engage in volunteering for a multitude of reasons, some of which may have a self-serving aspect.

During a recent conversation with a dear friend, she expressed feelings of shame when revealing her personal motivations for volunteering, which primarily revolved around boosting her profile. It is important for you to know that she is not alone in her perspective, as many individuals engage in volunteer work with the goal of enhancing their chances for scholarships and other opportunities.

I recalled my own experience when I decided to volunteer outside of my medical foundation. The impetus behind this decision was attending a class that highlighted the potential global opportunities that could arise from volunteering. It was an eye-opening experience, and I realized that by engaging in volunteer work beyond my comfort zone, I could expand my horizons and gain valuable skills and experiences.

It is crucial for us to understand that while some motivations for volunteering may initially stem from self-interest, it does not diminish the positive impact that can be achieved through such actions. Just as we discussed, people have different reasons for volunteering, and it is important not to judge or feel ashamed of these motivations. Instead, we should embrace the diverse range of motivations and focus on the collective good that can arise from our efforts.

PLEASE CHECK LAST SLIDE FOR COMPLETE MESSAGE.

Sincerely
