My pride and joy. Laelia speciosa. After a long, hard, dry rest, she blooms like a phoenix from the ashes! The color is so vivid, it almost glows. I’m very proud to flower this plant outside of its native country of Mexico and I study and hope for many years of successful culture to come. by @milosorchids

5 spikes on my Miltoniopsis vexillaria !! Swipe to see all of them in detail. A single bulb produced these five spikes, the plant can barely stand by itself without tipping over. I grow this in my intermediate greenhouse (55F nights, 85F days) in a net basket with sphagnum moss. It loves bright shade (1500 fc) and lives next to my evaporative cooler. taken in Los Angeles, California by @milosorchids

Paphiopedilum godefroyae var. anthong in situ!! I’m visiting Thailand and I was thrilled when I came across this colony at Anthong Islands National Park. These were growing on limestone cliffs a few meters away from the beach at sea level. taken in หมู่เกาะอ่างทอง Angthong National Marine Park by @milosorchids

Laelia eyermaniana, one of my favorite species, (yes of all time). Unlike most Laelia species that are winter blooming, this one blooms in the summer or early fall. The flowers are especially waxy. There is much variation within the species and I have heard that Laelia eyermaniana is a hybrid between L. speciosa and L. albida. I feel this one is a “true” eyermaniana because how delicate and thin the petals are and from what I’ve seen other eyermaniana’s online, especially from Mexico. Also the shape of the plant is distinct. It is the northern-most growing Laelia species that can be found as far north as the state of Sonora. It can get remarkably dry there. taken in Los Angeles, California by @milosorchids

Now this one shocked me. I mean that’s gorgeous! Gastrorchis humblotii from Madagascar. A lovely terrestrial that’s has the color contrast of a clown. This is a first bloom seedling for me and I’m thrilled. Intermediate grower, shade, even moisture in a fine bark mix. taken in Los Angeles, California by @milosorchids

Dendrobium victoria-reginae. While the flowers do look bluer/more coerulean in person, I’ve seen darker, bluer cultivars that look stunning. I want one of those! For now, this beauty will do. taken in Los Angeles, California by @milosorchids

Only one spike on my Cleisocentron gokusingii this year but a good size bundle of flowers. This one usually gets self pollinated but I’m yet to figure out by what. Or it could be a mechanism of the plant? Either way, this “blue” orchid is always a cool is every sense of the word. taken in Los Angeles, California by @milosorchids

This Cattleya aclandiae seems to be getting a lot of attention and is available on my eBay store right now. The parents are select cultivars (‘Maui Leopard’ x ‘Green Dragon’). This is a division of a plant I’ve had for over a decade. taken in Los Angeles, California by @milosorchids

Stanhopea embreei. The inflorescence is very large and the spacing between flowers is very nice. The fragrance is not as strong as many other Stanhopea species. I do find it harder to grow than other Stanhopea species as well. It didn’t bloom until it was very mature. I give it specifically morning sun. taken in Los Angeles, California by @milosorchids
