Quick question, how many miles are on your car right now?

If it has been a fair stretch since your last service, your transmission is probably due for some attention. It is one of those things that often gets overlooked compared to engine servicing, even though it plays just as big a role in keeping your car running smoothly.

If something smells off or the fluid looks different than usual, it’s worth getting it checked before it turns into a bigger issue.

Be honest, when did you last check your transmission fluid? Within the last few months, or do you not remember at all?

If you can not recall, it might be time to change that. Transmission fluid plays a bigger role than most people realize, helping reduce friction and wear on moving parts while also acting as a coolant and supporting smooth gear shifts and clutch engagement.

It is one of those things that quietly keeps everything running well until it does not, and by then it is often a bigger fix than it needed to be.

Ever wondered what a technician is actually checking during a gearbox diagnosis? Here is a look inside the process.

It starts with your symptoms, the details that help narrow things down from the very beginning. From there, a few basics get checked to build a full picture before any real conclusions are made.

The more information you can share when you bring your car in, the faster we can get to the bottom of it. Coming in prepared really does make a difference.

Mechatronic faults can come from a few different things, but a fault code doesn’t always mean the whole unit needs to be replaced.

This Audi S5 came in with a common issue relating to the drive position sensor, one of those faults that can quietly affect how the car shifts without always throwing an obvious warning.

It is a problem we see more often than you might think on cars like this. When the sensor starts giving inaccurate readings, the gearbox can struggle to shift the way it should, even if everything else feels fine at first.

Our team got to work diagnosing it properly and had this S5 back to performing the way it was meant to.

If your Audi or any VAG vehicle has been shifting oddly, do not ignore it. Book a diagnosis using this link: https://calendly.com/milta-technology/booking?month=2026-09

Some customers travel a lot further than others to get their car sorted properly, and this story is a great example of that.

One of our customers made the long journey from Scotland after discovering what he thought was an engine leak was actually a transmission issue. Our team took the job in and had him back on the road within the week, complete with a clear explanation of the work done and a warranty to back it up. He said it was worth every mile of the trip.

Stories like this remind us why getting the diagnosis right matters just as much as the repair itself.

The mechatronic unit is basically the gearbox’s control centre. It uses electronics and hydraulics to control when and how the gears shift.
