If you want to spend a magical evening in Thun, I highly recommend watching the Thun Water Magic @thunerwasserzauber.

The magical music, light and water performance takes place twice every evening in the Aare basin in front of the Hotel Freienhof, equally appealing and interesting to both children and adults.

⛴️ We spent a relaxing day on Lake Thun aboard the nostalgic paddle steamboat Blümlisalp from the Belle Epoque. And it was such a great experience for the whole family!

🧸 The highlight of the trip? It’s the only boat on Lake Thun with a Globi-themed play cabin! The kids were looked after and entertained in the supervised Globi play area while we enjoyed the scenic cruise from the deck. Children can anytime come on the deck and enjoy the views together.

🍽️ If you want to sit and eat in the restaurant inside, you need to reserve a table in advance.

🏰 Along the route, we passed by the four beautiful castles on Lake Thun (Spiez, Oberhofen, Hunegg, and Schadau), saw several other boats out on the water, St. Beatus Caves, waterfalls and just enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere and stunning alpine views.

We took a round trip on Lake Thun from Thun-Interlaken (West) and back from Interlaken (West)-Thun (almost 5 hours including 20 min stop in Interlaken (West)).
Although this boat trip can be ideally combined with an excursion to Spiez or the St. Beatus Caves, we decided to spent the whole time onboard discovering the castles and the beautiful villages from water.

📌 Note: The steamboat Blümlisalp operates seasonally from
May-October.

We finally visited KNIES KINDERZOO 🐫🦒🦙🐘🦓

What I loved the most is that it doesn’t feel rushed and the Zoo isn’t overwhelming. There are plenty of shaded spots to take a break. The whole Zoo isn’t huge and is designed for children to explore at their own pace. Instead of just looking at animals from a distance, there are many opportunities to get closer and really experience them like camel and pony rides, feeding some of the animals and petting them.

It can be a lovely family day out if you are visiting with younger kids. There are also playgrounds and a little train that always seems to be a hit.

💰Entry: Children age 4-15 : 9 CHF
Adults: 23 CHF

💡Just keep in mind that many of the extra activities come at an additional cost like giraffe feeding, camel and pony rides, the Zoo train. So it’s worth budgeting for those in advance.

📌 A quick tip if you are planning a visit: we went on an extremely hot summer day, which meant many of the animals were hiding in the shade. While it is completely natural for them to seek shelter from the heat, we missed seeing a few of them.
The petting zoo animals also seemed a bit low on energy due to the high temperatures, so I’d highly recommend picking a slightly cooler day for the best experience!

💡 The Trampelwurm is a colourful bike-train vehicle that is unique in Europe.
