You guys, LOL. This book was so hilarious for it being a 67 page book. The main character, Lucas, represents me as an introvert and the dreading feeling of socialization. If this describes you, read this!!!!! (Also, there seems to be a hyper fixation around an abandoned pan and Facebook angels on a staircase!!! 🤔🍳)

Title: King of Envy

Author: Ana Huang

My rating: 5/5

Recommended age group: 18+

King of Envy was such a good book!! I’ve taken a break from reading book genres I enjoy because of university. I needed a break from Jane Austen and Herman Melville. This book was amazing! It was a great mix of slow burn romance and action. I can’t believe I’ve never read any book from this series until now. Recommend to my romance girlies ❤️🫶🏽🌷👔👰🏾‍♀️

⭐️ A KU read ⭐️

Title: Beyond Schizophrenia

Author: Marjorie L. Baldwin

My Rating: 4/5

Recommended Age Group: 16+

“Beyond Schizophrenia” was such an intriguing and personal read for me. I took away so much information regarding SMI (severe mental illness), particularly schizophrenia. The author writes from both professional and personal experience as a mother of a son with schizophrenia. There’s a strong focus on employment and the importance of education for people with SMI. Overall, this book is both an educational and personal read for those who have SMI or have loved ones who share similar experiences.

Title: Off With Her Head: Three Thousand Years of Demonizing Women in Power

Author: Eleanor Herman

My Rating: 4/5

Recommended Age Group: 16+

You guys….. This was was such a good read! If you want to learn how long women have been demonized in power, this is for you!! This book made me so angry because it perfectly depicts how far men will go to bring down smart and powerful women. The writing clearly reflects the author’s research and passion for the subject.

Title: Cultural Literacy

Rating: 2/5

In the beginning, I truly enjoyed this book and it’s overall message about communication and how it’s based on shared knowledge. As humans, we can’t engage in effective communication if we don’t share background knowledge. By the end, I was truly over it. I was not a fan of the appendix as it was half the book.📕 Certain chapters felt very dry and this book was close to going on my DNF list.
That’s all folks!

Title: Dear Memory: Letters on Writing, Silence, and Grief

Author: Victoria Chang

Recommended Age group: Adult audience

Dear Memory was the first memoir I read and the writing was so beautiful! Victoria’s life and her journey as a poet are told through a collection of letters to/from her mother, father, grandparents, former teachers, fellow poets, and her children. This memoir explores topics of grief and memory. I especially enjoyed the theme of identity as Victoria reflects on how being a child of immigrants shaped her own identity and memory. I was able to relate to many of her experiences as well. Once again, absolutely incredible writing. - Mina

Title: In Praise Of Women’s Bodies

Author: Gloria Steinem

Recommended age group: 14+

My rating: 5/5

In praise of women’s bodies is a short essay by Gloria Steinem. It is a story that highlights the importance of celebrating the beauty of women’s bodies, and fighting against stereotypes that make women feel as if they’re not.

This book was very short but I loved it so much. It’s an awakening story about the beauty and diversity of women and how strong we are. Our bodies are beautiful despite any unrealistic society standards that are fed to us daily. We should all support each other rather than look at each other as competition. WE’RE BEAUTIFUL and what a gift to have beautiful women in our life. 🤍💐

Title: Very Cold People

Author: Sarah Manguso

Recommended age group: 18+

My rating: 4/5

Very Cold People is a 2022 coming of age novel that focuses on the fictional life of young Ruthie. Ruthie lives in a small town in the state of Massachusetts with her dysfunctional family. As she gets older, Ruthie, begins to uncover her parents own secrets. Secrets that will leave one with cold chills.

[This book includes trigger warnings‼️]

This book explains the life of Ruthie and how her fathers actions altered the lives of people that she loved. This book was dark and included subjects that may be triggering. The book title stuck to the plot because, wow. This book is a must read as it brings light to important topics so definitely recommend.
