Last weekend began with a very special celebration: Hospital Radio Plymouth’s Big Broadcast Celebration, marking 100 years of Hospital Radio and 57 years of Hospital Radio Plymouth.

It was an important occasion, brilliantly organised by Zara Teare and the team — and, just as importantly, it was great fun, there was warmth, laughter and a real sense of people coming together to celebrate the contribution Hospital Radio has made to patients, families, volunteers and the wider community.

Then came the early meeting.
We have recently moved Mindsmith Thinking — now focused on leadership and organisational development — alongside Mindsmith Thinking Events and our personal and professional development arm, Mind Mastery MM, to The Block Royal William Yard, Plymouth.

It is a brilliant working environment, and last weekend it gave us the setting for an early catch-up with @ohzee_ B.Eng, PMP®️ and Liz Bell as planning for our next International Men’s Day event continued.

This is often how the work begins: an early meeting, breakfast for some, a laptop, some notes, a conversation — and the occasional reminder that leadership is not always easy when not every suggesting meets expectation!

Then Liz floored us with a question,
“ Have you ever thought about what it means to be a man?”
I thought: wow. In many years on this earth, I had never stopped to consider the question in those exact terms.
And then I had to ask: why?
It is not because there is one answer, or one definition of masculinity. There is not. But because the beliefs we hold about being a man, can shape how we show up in our relationships, families, workplaces and communities — often without us ever having had the chance to examine them.

That is the conversation we are creating for International Men’s Day 2026: honest, thoughtful and constructive. A space to hear real stories, meet good people and consider the role each of us can play in creating a better future.

City College Plymouth Strategic Intent Launch!

I’m delighted to be speaking at the launch of @cityplym ’s Strategic Intent on Friday 4 September, at the National Marine Aquarium, Plymouth.

I’ll be sharing a short reflection on Culture & Belonging—and why the conditions people experience every day, including shared purpose, trust, wellbeing and connection, are fundamental to collective performance.

City College Plymouth has made Culture & Belonging a strategic priority. That is a significant commitment to its staff, students, employers and communities, and I am looking forward to being part of the conversation.

Dr. Jeremy Chambers CMgr, FCMI, Liz Bell and I had a great evening at the Next Generation summer event organized by the @devon_chamber_of_commerce Chamber of Commerce at @tinsidelido Beautiful venue and evening!

Great to connect and catch up with Caitlin Barnes, Donna Davies, Penny Louise Hannah, Richard Baker and many others.

Thanks to all including Helen Hart and Elaine Dalton-Fyfe for putting on a great show! Exceptional band too. Great time was had by all!
