Food safety matters, AND so does your relationship with food. 💙

With recent food safety concerns in the news, things evolving and changing with supply chain, it’s understandable if you notice increased anxiety around eating. For many people in eating disorder recovery, headlines like these can feel especially activating, and we want to check in #edwarriors!!
.
.
It’s okay to take reasonable, evidence-based precautions while also staying connected to recovery.
MYBody’s Sabrina Ivezaj, RD, has prepared some reminds for this summer season:
*  Wash produce as recommended.
* Follow current public health guidance from trusted sources.
* If a product is part of a recall, replace it rather than expanding restrictions to other foods.
* Notice when fear is asking you to eliminate entire food groups or “play it safe” beyond the available evidence.
Recovery doesn’t require ignoring legitimate safety recommendations. It balances navigating best practices for you, while ditching living in fear of food.
.
.
.
If these news stories are bringing up distress, pause with curiosity rather than judgment. Ask yourself:
• Is this decision based on current guidance or anxiety?
• What would support both my physical safety and my recovery today?
You deserve nourishment, flexibility, and compassionate care. Safety and recovery can exist together. 🤍
.
.

Happy National Registered Dietitian Day to our amazing RD team!! And all you fellow HAES ED RDs helping support dismantling diet culture!!
.
.
.
Eating disorder recovery isn’t just about food—it’s about rebuilding trust with your body, challenging fear, and learning how nourishment supports healing. Registered Dietitians are essential members of the recovery team because nutrition therapy helps translate that healing into everyday life: meals, snacks, grocery stores, restaurants, and the moments that feel tricky.
.
.
.
Dietitians provide evidence-based care that restores nutritional stability, supports the brain and body in recovery, and helps untangle years of confusing or harmful messages about food and health. In a space where shame and fear often live, nutrition counseling offers structure, compassion, and the reminder that food is not the enemy—it’s part of the path forward.
Grateful for the RDs who show up every day to help people reclaim nourishment, flexibility, and freedom with food.

Food security is directly a protective factor for preventing developing an eating disorder.
.
Food security allows for mental well being and physical health indicators across the entire lifespan to significantly improve.
.
Food security is something the government is CAPABLE of helping happen. For every dollar of food assistance there is a direct benefit to our economy.
.
Food security reduces violence and impulsive acts for those who feel desperate.
.
Hunger and stress change the neurological wiring in any human brain. These changes have significant consequences in children and can change wiring until adulthood or trauma healing interventions.
.
There’s a dialectic experience happening right now surrounding food security in America. The activation for grassroots mobilization to support organizations that help address food security is both noble and necessary. Donating cash or shelf stable items to local organizations is amazing! Combining candy with some other food items for folx to grab this Halloween- amazing!
.
AND we the people need to get loud and clear that the system needs repair, and needs actionable change. Historically any time programming has been on the cusp of being cut, delayed or cancelled, using your voice has caused direct change! Call your senator. Repost about this, make it loud.
.
In eating disorder recovery, there is a stage that contains liberation. Liberation of intentional communication, intentional autonomy, intentional engagement in the world. These acts are of empowerment and self care. These acts are more readily accessible and effective in a nourished body and mind. These acts are forms of resistance to systems that thrive on collective exhaustion or distracted stress. Collectively and individually we can come together to reclaim the powerful message: all humans deserve to be protected and fed.
.
Your voice. Your power. Your impact.
