POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
The Senior BBQ brought together the Class of 2027 to celebrate the next chapter of their Mines experience. We were there to welcome students early into the alumni community and hear what they’re most excited about as future alumni. Here’s what they had to say. by @minesalumni

Gavin Jones '22 and Regan Sampson '22 tied the knot in August 2026 after a love story that began on the fourth floor of Maple Hall at Mines. They met freshman year in 2018, living on the fourth floor, where Regan also lived alongside her two future maids of honor. What started as a friendship eventually turned into something more, and the couple began dating in April of their freshman year.

Nearly eight years later, their Mines story has come full circle! Both earned degrees in mechanical engineering, with Regan also minoring in computer science. The Mines connections didn't stop there; A lot of the wedding party and many guests were Mines friends!

From late nights in Maple Hall to engineering classes, college adventures, and ultimately, saying “I do,” Mines was the place where their story began and where so many of their lifelong friendships were made. by @minesalumni

Karen Elliott has a special connection to Mines that spans multiple generations. Her husband, Royce, received his first silver diploma in 1966 and returned for his Master's degree in 1970. Their youngest son graduated Mines in1997. Her family's legacy continued when his daughter graduated in 2025 and received her Master's degree in 2026.

Karen's own Mines story began while her husband was a student. She was an active member of the Dames Society, the organization for the wives of Mines students. When her husband graduated in 1966 and 1970, Karen received diplomas of her own officially signed by the Mines president's wife Elizabeth Childs and conferring upon her a "PHT" degree, which stood for "Put Husband Through." by @minesalumni

Stephan ’13 and Jessica M.S. ’14 Mines story began in Fall 2013 in Professor Chris Higgins’ notorious Water Chemistry class. Over the years, they built a life together centered around engineering, the outdoors and adventure. After seven years in Golden, they moved to Eagle, Colorado, where they now call the mountains home. Along the way, they have raised four dogs and traveled, skied and sailed their way through countries around the world.

Nearly 13 years to the day after meeting at Mines, Stephan and Jessica eloped in Iceland on August 11, 2026. On their fourth trip to the country, they surrounded themselves with the waterfalls, mountains and dramatic landscapes. by @minesalumni
