Adopt. Don’t shop.

It’s been close to 5 years now since our original soldier went to the stars. With the kids getting older and some divine timing, our spring break trip to San Diego this weekend came with a side quest. Thank you to my big bro Steven for the connection. Story time.

Thursday, May 23, 2024
7:00 PM //

We’re about 9.5 months since the start of my son’s first year of school. We’ve already had a long day leading up to this and we have his first ever “Open House” that we will be attending with parental eyes. His teachers have been saving his classroom display as a surprise and baby boy is excited to show us finally after having being kept out of the classroom a few days prior. He’s having his graduation / promotion in a few days so the feelings are definitely in the air.

Surprised as we are, there’s a full-blown assembly with staff introductions and my niece and nephew volunteer to do teacher introductions to the crowd. We’re proud, we cheer. We see a few familiar faces in the crowd while I eat up our share of the amazingly priced PTA hotdogs and Nachos with a drink. $8 well spent. Spent, is our enthusiasm as the crowd clears and we walk to his classroom to finally see the badass décor the Teachers and students helped put up and design… It was an underwater theme with sea animals and cardboard cutouts of seaweed and floating Jellyfish I think they were. I see his Stingray project perfectly cut and drawn with little details all on his “own” stuffed with paper in between 2 layers of cardboard stock to give it a 3D look and feel… It looks exactly like something a 5-year-old kid would possibly do without any help from his artistic dad of little patience at times. Spoiler alert, I did about 95% of it.

Story time :

This was filmed 13 years ago. A small project film asking a simple question about a yearly ride we thought we would naively be doing until our end of days. Motorcycles was such a huge part of my life but time eventually brings change, and change brings time. I’m sure this video will only appeal to the crowd that’s into the moto side of me, everyone else couldn’t care less.

This past Sundays 17 year finale ( I repeat, 17 years ) ride definitely brought out the feels and my denial to it at the moment brings me all the way back to making this post here. I originally planned to make a follow up video to this last ride but I’m glad I didn’t so I could take it all in one last time. What makes it fun and what made it so special? You just had to be there. Funny what a ruckus we had in every sense of the word.

So many friends made, endless stories to share. Lol fucking hell, look how young we all were.

I didn’t have an answer to the question at the time but if someone asked me now… my answer would probably be “What does Super Sunday mean to me? More than you’ll ever know”

So for the last and probably most meaningful time, what does Super Sunday mean to you?

Thank you Killer Steven, hats off.
