🖤 AALIYAH - One in A Million Barbie 🖤
What a dream project. As a 90’s baby, who is a hip hop dancer and lover of R&B music, working on this doll was easily one of the biggest honors of my life. When @carlylenuera looped me in as the face designer for this project in 2023, we were SO excited, but knew how important it was that we did this doll justice for all of the Aaliyah fans out there. I designed and painted her face with so much intention, patience, and care. (all while listening to her music on repeat, of course.✨) Every single team member pulled through and did such a skillful job, and the end result is something we are so proud to have worked on. I’m so grateful for the trust from my teammates and managers, to work on such an important doll of such a beloved and incredible human. Princess @aaliyah forever and ever. 🖤

I’m soooo late on posting, but I wanted to share a few behind the scenes pics from the digital face design process we used for these dolls. I love designing the faces for the first wave of a new doll line, because we not only have tons of freedom, but also get to define the aesthetic and intention for the rest of the line as it continues to live on! I’m a bit late with sharing the hand painted prototype for this one, but it’s easily one of my favorite faces I’ve ever designed! I always love doin it for my brown Asian girlies.🩷
This doll is also special, because it is one of the few times I’ve gotten to collaborate with the legend himself, @billgreening. Although we didn’t work together often, I truly value the times that I got to experience his wisdom, expertise, and kindness. Thank you, Bill. 💓

The Dream Besties face proportions leave so much space for experimentation, so I can truly go crazy on the make up! @_judy.choi_ and I have SO much fun working on these dolls—bouncing around ideas and playing around with countless different make up looks before we land on the final designs. I am so proud to have face designed every single doll in the Dream Besties line. Creating something from the ground up with a such a talented team is always a dream come true. 💓
