You paid for the bath. They had other plans. 🍂 🪨🌿🍁🐾

Ever wonder why dogs love throwing themselves onto the grass and rolling around like they’ve just discovered the greatest thing on earth?

Turns out, there’s some fascinating science behind those dramatic backyard performances!

Dogs engage in a behavior called scent rolling, which may be rooted in their evolutionary history. Researchers believe it could serve several purposes, including picking up environmental scents, communicating through scent, or potentially masking their own odor.

But sometimes? The grass just feels REALLY good. 😂

Rolling can also help scratch an itch, and for some dogs, it’s simply an enjoyable activity.

So the next time your freshly bathed dog makes a beeline for the lawn, remember: they’re not necessarily trying to ruin your hard work. They’re just being dogs!

Does your dog roll in the grass, or do they prefer something considerably stinkier? 👀

No meetings. No deadlines. No idea what day it is. Just sunshine, fresh grass, and your best friends running alongside you. 🐾☀️

Honestly, our dogs have life figured out. 😂💛

Anyone else wish they could trade schedules with their dog for a week?

You tell yourself you’re getting a puppy for the kids… and then somehow, that puppy becomes your favorite child. 😂

Don’t worry, we won’t tell the kids.

Anyone else have a four-legged favorite in the family? 🐾

If only our dogs could live forever. 💛

We can’t control how long they’re with us, but we can make choices every day that support a longer, healthier life.

Here’s something worth knowing: Lean dogs can live up to 2.5 years longer than overweight dogs! That’s a pretty compelling reason to pay attention to what’s going into their bowls.

I’m always mindful of proper nutrition, regular exercise, and maintaining a healthy body condition. That’s one reason I appreciate The Farmer’s Dog. Their pre-portioned meals are tailored to each dog’s needs, making it easier to manage portions and support a healthy weight.

Quick tip: Look at your dog from above. Can you see a defined waist that curves inward just behind the ribs? That’s one helpful indicator of healthy body condition!

Because we all want as many years with them as possible. 💛

Remember when you were a kid and thought, “When I grow up, I’m going to have as many dogs as I want”?

Well, nobody warned us that the only adult supervision would be ourselves. 😂

So basically, we’re living the dream of our eight-year-old selves… just with a lot more vacuuming and a much bigger vet bill. 🐶💛

But all jokes aside, there’s a lot more to our eight-dog household than just questionable dog math.

Our kids have grown up surrounded by dogs, learning responsibility, patience, compassion, and what it means to care for someone who depends on you. They’ve also always had a furry friend to turn to on the hard days.

And for me personally, the dogs became an even bigger part of my life after I suffered a spinal injury a few years ago. I leaned into them more than ever. On days when the pain made just about everything difficult, they gave me a reason to get moving, something positive to focus on, and a whole lot of comfort that no prescription could ever quite replicate.

They haven’t taken away the pain, but they’ve certainly made living with it a little easier.

So yes, eight dogs might sound completely ridiculous to some people. And some days, it absolutely is. 😂

But the companionship, laughter, unconditional love, and little lessons they’ve brought into our home? I wouldn’t trade any of it.

Besides, I made a promise to my eight-year-old self, and apparently, I’m a woman of my word. 💛

Shoutout to the four-legged therapists who work 24/7, accept payment in treats, and have absolutely no respect for personal space. 🐾💛

But seriously, there’s actual science behind how much our dogs do for our mental health!

Research from the Human Animal Bond Research Institute (HABRI) shows that our pets can help reduce stress, ease loneliness, improve our mood, and give us a greater sense of purpose and connection.

Sometimes it’s the companionship, sometimes it’s the daily routine, and sometimes it’s simply having someone who is ridiculously happy to see you walk through the door.

They may not fix all our problems, but they certainly make the difficult days a little easier.

🗓️ With World Mental Health Day tomorrow, it’s a good reminder to appreciate the four-legged family members who do so much for our emotional well-being. 💛

Tag someone whose dog deserves a raise! 💛

First bowl with @thefarmersdog, and I think the reaction says everything!! 😂

We’re in the gradual transition phase, so today’s meal was mixed with his regular food, but he was VERY clearly interested from the first bite! I think from the first sniff is more accurate!

One of the things that interested me most about The Farmer’s Dog is the focus on real food and quality ingredients, along with meals that are portioned for each dog based on their individual caloric needs. With eight dogs, I’m very aware that what works for one does not necessarily fit every dog in the home the exactly the same way, so I really love and appreciate that personalized approach.

We’re taking the transition slowly and letting him adjust, but first bowl impression? I’d say he understood the assignment!

🐶 Check out what I put in Mom’s cart for Prime Day…

I did the math, and apparently we need all of it. 🧮 🦴♾️

Treats? Obviously. New toys? Essential. Dog stuff Mom definitely didn’t know she needed? Add to cart. 🛒 📦

We put some of our favorite finds in our Amazon Storefront so your dog can make equally questionable financial decisions this Prime Day. 😂

🛒 Check out our storefront through the link in our bio and see what made the cart!

And remember: if it’s for the dog and it’s on sale, you’re basically saving money. That’s just Dog Math. 🐶💛 taken in Miami, Florida by @mini.aussie.doodle
