A year ago today at one of the best hospitals in the world, my husband Jim and I were told that he had a rare incurable cancer and wouldn’t make it through the holidays without a barbaric chemo treatment that IF successful-would buy us a year. 🖤

And just like that, the beautiful life we created and shared was blown apart in an instant and became a fever dream nightmare. 🖤

Nine months later, after fighting with every healing modality we could, on the night before our 22nd anniversary, the love of my life and my soulmate left this earth I became a widow.
🖤

I’ve learned that you have to flow through what you go through, and my silk fans and flow practice have helped me move through a LOT of grief in the past few years.🖤

The loss of my father-in-law, sister-in-law, my dearest friend was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer two weeks after my Mom died when she fell & had a fatal stroke, who died three weeks after her sister-my favorite Auntie-died. Our beloved dogs, Friday & Grommet both crossed the rainbow bridge. And six months after my dear friend passed, so did Jim. All in under 4 years. 🖤

I honestly haven’t had the bandwidth to pick up my fans in the 3 months since Jim’s been gone. But last week I decided it was time.🖤

I finally opened the last order I placed with @thebamboocloset …queen size midnight black fans…specifically so I could wrap myself up in the color of grief as I mourned. 🖤

And when I open the box, I saw not one, but two pairs of fans!

Nestled next to the black ones, was a gifted set of ethereal moonlight white half moon fans. 🤍

As if somehow intuitively, whoever packaged my order (I’m looking at you Whitney😉) knew I would need a gentle reminder that I still need to experience moments of lightness, even as I am stumbling through this dark night of the soul. 🤍

And I am eternally grateful for that gift!🙏🫂❤️‍🩹🪭✨

This is a love note to myself as well as to anyone else that’s struggling today.💌

Sometimes life is just f’kn hard. It just is.🖤

It wasn’t supposed to end like this, you dying before me. 🖤

We were supposed to grow old together.🖤

And when we got too old & our time came, we said we would leave this world together.🖤

Because living without each other just wasn’t even a consideration. Ever. 🖤

That’s why we’d joke about doing a Thelma and Louise or joining the Hemlock Society. 🖤

And why we sang this Smiths song to each other for over 20 years ‘cuz if a ten ton truck took us both out at the same time…we were totally fine with it because for us, it would be heavenly way to go. 🖤

But here we are. 🖤

For one year and seven days now I’ve had to exist in a world that doesn’t have you in it anymore and I f’kn hate it.🖤

On some of those days I wish it would’ve been that double decker bus that got the both of us, instead of the rare and barbaric cancer that suddenly appeared in your body and swiftly took you away from me and the beautiful life we had. 🖤

But I try to comfort myself with the fact that every day that I make it through without you here is really just one day closer to when we will be together again forever.🖤

The way we always wanted it to be. 🖤

And our love and our light will never go out. Ever. 🤍

It couldn’t have been easy for a young pup to come live in a new home where sadly, someone was dying. 🖤

Not only because the energy in the house was heavy with heartbreak and sorrow, but with all the different nurses, hospice, and family that were
continuously in and out of the house. All of them strangers.

But Willow was an absolute champ! At 9 months old.🌟

That’s when I knew that there was something uniquely special about her. ✨Unlike any other dog I’ve ever known. (If you’ve had the joy of meeting her in person then you know exactly what I mean!✨)

I honestly don’t know how I could’ve made it this far into my new life as a widow without her heart medicine! 💔🐾🪽✨❤️‍🩹

I’m eternally grateful to @seven_sisters_canids @bobbennett_ and Gary & Ally for everything you did to give us the priceless gift of her being able to spend time with Jim & that they got to know each other for a bit before he died. 🙏🫂💐

Fun fact! Willow was born the day after Jim was diagnosed, almost as if her little spirit knew it was go time! 💔🐾🪽❤️‍🩹

Annnnd…I think Friday and Grommet had something to do with sending her! 🐾😇😇🐾

Happy Gotcha Day Willow…thank you for taking such good care of me the past year. Love you too much you silly goofy girl!🐾🐺🪽💖
