I ANSWERED THE CALL "Why is Magdalene calling me?" I asked myself when I was receiving the call. It lasted less than a minute. It was a simple invite to help out at @durbanfilmmart and a simplest, "Yes" from me. I have a newly found respect for the work they do and I'll forever be proud for being a part of making it happen this year. The meticulous planning of this event gave me a new drive and purpose for my own career and the impact I want my work to have. To programme, funding and award partners, thank you. It also affects me not just as staff this year but a filmmaker. To delegates: most of you are friends and lovely colleagues and I enjoyed seeing all of you again. To my friends whose calls I ignored, yes I was ignoring them on purpose mara la understand mos 😅. As you you can see, hands were always full of hard drives, marking pens and stationery. @durbanfilmmart, in the words of @_zondikhanyi, "Siyabonga ngokuqasha uMinenhle bakithi" 😂 by @miniluthuli

What do I have in common with an actor, a rapper, an author and a life coach? Besides all of us being African, we also share a love for storytelling and produced short films which screened at the @africafilmfest shorts selection last Sunday. by @miniluthuli

365+ Days of Being You Developing new work, chasing application deadline, and eagerly waiting on funding outcomes can make you forget you're currently within a blessing you once developed, submitted a lengthy funding application for and waited (for a long time after multiple funding rejections) to make it. It was all worth it. I love this film. I believe in this story. We have 2 selections confirmed for September in the USA and Australia and I can't wait for many people to see this. If you haven't seen it, I hope you see it one day. #SouthAfricanShortFilm #ShortFilm by @miniluthuli

J'ai passé une semaine entière à parler français. I travelled to Dakar, Senegal 🇸🇳 to represent my short film, Being You, which is participated at this year's edition of @filmsfemmesafrique, an intimate film festival by women, celebrating and advocating for stories by women in Africa. The city welcomed us with warm 🌞 and windiest 🌪 weather mais j’ai apprécié toutes les conversations que j’ai eues et les personnes que j’ai rencontrées. Thank you for advocating for impactful storytelling @filmsfemmesafrique by @miniluthuli

AFRIKAMERA SHORTS: Director’s Choice Nov 12 // 6 PM // @citykinowedding // OV with engl. subs. // 74 min // After the screening Q+A with Sahar El Echi (director of BORD À BORD) 🎫 Get the tickets in the link in our bio. Presented is an exclusive program curated by festival director @alexmoussasawadogo of outstanding short and medium-length films by filmmakers from the African continent and the African diaspora. BORD À BORD (ON THE EDGE) (Tunisia 2024) by Sahar El Echi | Mounirar, a woman in her thirties, makes a living from her small fricassee shop inherited from her late father. The shop is in the heart of the Henchir Lehoudiya scrapyard, a southern suburb of Tunis, largely male-dominated. In this harsh environment, she faces new challenges daily. BOUSSA (Algeria 2023) by Azedine Kasri | Meriem and Reda are two Algerian lovers, who have still not managed to exchange a kiss. This simple desire will turn into a real obstacle course. The remaining question is: are they going to make it? BEING YOU (South Africa 2024) by Minenhle Luthuli | A reserved screenwriter sits in the middle of a press interview when a question about her past triggers a panic attack, causing her to faint. She wakes up and realizes she has traveled back in time to meet her outspoken younger self and must convince her not to make the mistake she has regretted for most of her life. FOULSARE (Burkina Faso 2024) by Ismaël Compaoré | In a badly-lit room, Bouba of the special forces is in the middle of an interrogation with an Ansarul Islam fighter apprehended following a joint military operation carried out in the Foulsaré forest, at the border between Burkina Faso and Mali. What could possibly come out of the exchanges between these two men consumed by pain, the thirst for revenge and who are completely opposed? This dialogue is that of a Nation under construction facing its own demons. #AFRIKAMERA2025 #18thEdition #AfricanFilmFestivalBerlin #AfricanFilm #AfrikameraShorts #CityKinoWedding by @miniluthuli

🎬 BEING YOU - OFFICIAL POSTER AND TRAILER In exactly one month (20 July 2025), Being You will premiere in the Shorts Competition at the Durban International Film Festival (@durbaninternationalfilmfest) What a ride it has been! @uniformza and @yamahamusicsa — you replied to a cold email and generously let us use your garments and gear. Thank you. @panavisionofficial, you only asked that I pay insurance and taught me a grown-up lesson in production: never break the expensive gear box! 🙃 I’m officially a producer who knows how to file a claim. Grateful. @nfvfsa — this film was made entirely on your R250k. I know, I know... what a queen I am for pulling this off on that budget. Thank you. @mona.monyane , @palesa_mothopi, @stella_dlangalala — thank you for reading the script and running with it. To my amazing crew — you worked so hard, you even motivated @chantimwa21 to upgrade our catering. @onetakekeith, @blizzyiii, @dingo_berri, Melissa and I were tired of Chicken Licken on sets. 🙏🏾 I'll never forget each and every one of you. TO EVERYONE - I hope you enjoy it. by @miniluthuli
