HOMEWORK WALLPAPER - it’s all academic!

We get super-graphic with a return to our 80s schooldays.
POV - it’s the weekend, back in 1982, and two northern boys are putting off doing any kind of academic work. They have many assignments due to be handed in on Monday morning - and yet the graph paper before them remains blank.

Taken from our autobiographical wallpaper collection SATURDAY NIGHT/SUNDAY MORNING, Homework is a stylish graph wallpaper design, available in three exercise book inspired colourways.

In the early 80s I would hang out listening to records at my friend Pauline’s house. Her parents had red graph wallpaper in their dining room where the record player was - I thought it was the height of sophistication, it felt both aspirational and very modern at the same time, and to be honest looking back at photos from those days - I still think it does!

Mark’s favourite colour way is the Pale Verdigris version as it exactly replicates the iconic science book graph paper from his exercise books at school and it’s this colourway which features in Tao’s bedroom in 2 seasons of Heartstopper.

Don’t leave your homework until the last minute like we did!

For any train enthusiasts out there - look out for an upcoming feature including our little house in Dungeness on the Transport Matters YouTube channel.

We always love talking about the history of our house in this unique spot on the Kent coast.

Our house is built around a Victorian SE&CR bird cage railway guards van which was placed on the beach in the early 30s by the Paine family. And it stayed in their family for many years.

Following this it became the Dungeness Smokery before we bought it in 2012.

We spent a long time renovating and restoring the cottage as you may have seen if you have followed us for some time and subscribe to our newsletters.

It was very hard work but was well worth it. We never fail to be excited when we open the door and see the spectacular view from our carriage/living room windows.

Stay tuned… lots of love Mark and Keith ❤️ by @minimoderns

Celebrating our classic C-60 wallpaper - with our best friend Jeff @callybeatoncomedian

C-60 is our homage to the humble tape cassette, featuring the mix tapes we made and shared as teenagers.

In the ‘80s there was always an occasion for making a mix tape — whether it was a party, a friend’s birthday present, or simply recording those obscure tracks from the Annie Nightingale show on Sunday nights on Radio 1.

Yes, we knew home taping was technically illegal, and as the warning on the cassette told us, was “killing music”. But back then it was the only way to make music portable and take it with you wherever you went.

Tape cassettes are an iconic piece of design from our youth. We loved the clear casing and futuristic ’80s modern graphics of the Memorex dBS1, but our budgets usually only ran to a three-pack of own brand C-60 tapes from Woolworths.

Champions of home taping, Bow Wow Wow even released the single C-30, C-60, C-90 Go!, which is where the wallpaper’s name comes from.

When we created the wallpaper, way back in 2009, we designed a monochrome version designed to be coloured in and personalised once it was on the wall. It was one of three ‘Colour Me’ designs we created.

We even created a limited edition fabric in a pre felt tipped multicoloured version, which was used for cushions, clothing, greeting cards, mugs and rain hoods. @danielagallery even created cassette lavender bags using the fabric for our Remix project.

The wallpaper is also available in Chalkboard and shimmering, metallic gold.

From its launch, C-60 was an instant hit — and it continues to bring a touch of cool nostalgia to interiors. It’s appeared on TV, from Hollyoaks to the 2019 series, Wu-Tang: An American Saga, and in the public areas of BBC 6 Music. Plus, it has become something of a restroom favourite in bars and clubs.

So dust off the Walkman, dig out the TDKs and tell us about your mix tape memories in the comments.
Press play. Press record.

Lots of love,
Mark & Keith

Lucienne Day Provence wallpaper showcase window at @designcentrech

In preparation for FOCUS on Design 26 - Mark and I headed over to Chelsea Harbour to update our showcase window.

The window is a celebration of the 75th anniversary of Lucienne Day’s Provence wallpaper, which was used by Robin Day for his room set in the Homes and Gardens pavilion at the 1951 Festival of Britain.

The installation features Provence in Chestnut alongside a portrait of Lucienne in her studio and an original image of the wallpaper from 1951.

Our showcase window is located on the third floor of the North Dome.

Many thanks to @robinlucienneday for providing the archive images and to @windowfilm for the vinyls and image reproduction.

FOCUS 26 14-18 September 2026.

See you there! If you spot us say hello.

Colour inspiration for AW26 - Pantile, Olive, Winter Plum and a hit of Ultramarine.

Here at Mini Moderns HQ, we’re currently planning a range of renovations and redecoration in both our studio and living spaces. The colour palette we’re contemplating stems largely from designs in two recently launched collections: Short Stories and our 20th Anniversary Albany collaboration. @albanypaintwallpaper @wallpaperdirect

Warm terracotta, rich olive and decadent plum are at the heart of our autumn palette. Ultramarine acts as a counterpoint and feels like a very current way to add a bit of drama to the inherent cosiness of these grounded colours.

We’ve selected some of our favourite colours from the @yes.colours range to complement our palettes.

Hold Tight!

Our vintage bus ticket pattern was inspired by a Festival of Britain London bus ticket and a 1951 travel guide to the Southbank festival site.

We launched the wallpaper in collaboration with @ltmuseum and the design appeared on mugs, cushions and kitchenware.

In 2014 a multi coloured version of the pattern was selected to be part of a fleet of model buses which were dotted around London to celebrate the Year of the Bus - launching in Trafalgar Square, along with other buses by Orla Kiely and Crispin Finn.

Tickets please…

Hello fabulous MM people. Mark here. It’s a tradition now that once a year, on the occasion of his birthday, I get to crash our grid to present you with a random selection of photographs of one very special man - Mr Keith Stephenson. Over the years, the compliments have veered dangerously close to hyperbole… so why break with tradition?

Keith is THE most talented, THE most creative, THE funniest, THE most stylish and THE most inspiring chap you could hope to come across (and possibly run a wallpaper business with). He was once described in a book acknowledgment as ‘simply the best graphic designer in the world’. I’m not arguing.

Campanile and Italianate - Portmeirion inspired!

Mark and I have been visiting @visit_portmeirion village since the early 2000s, when he first took me there as a surprise for my birthday. The trip was so inspiring that it not only gave rise to two wallpaper designs, Battery Square and Six of One, but also, in many ways, to Mini Moderns itself!

Those two designs, inspired by Clough Williams-Ellis’s extraordinary Italianate village and the cult TV series The Prisoner, which was filmed there, are now enjoying retirement in the Mini Moderns archive. But Portmeirion’s architecture and eccentric charm continue to inspire us, most recently in two designs from our Short Stories collection: Campanile and Italianate.

Campanile is a multicoloured village-scape, with the architecture of Portmeirion stacked and layered upon itself, echoing the extraordinary perspectives of the village seen from the estuary.

Italianate, meanwhile, is a large-format mural created with intricate marquetry, featuring the buildings and architectural details of Portmeirion in a panoramic landscape.

Lots of love Mark and Keith

Marking their 20th year, Mini Moderns are delighted to launch a second wallpaper collaboration with Albany.

The five designs in the collection reflect key milestones in Mini Moderns history and revisit some of Mark and Keith’s most enduring design themes.

Each design comes in 4 colourways, fittingly making a total of twenty wallpapers in this anniversary collection.
