When I was a wee child, weekends meant stayover at gramps. My yeye would either get Puttu Mayam or Roti Prata on Saturday mornings and play on my favourite show, Teletubbies. Sometimes, we would go for an afternoon walk to the mamashop to buy newspaper and get a potong ice cream on the way back. When I grew a little bigger, weekends became yeye making a trip down to our place to bring us to the playground just below our house. Or even, just to take us swimming downstairs. As the years goes by, weekends became rushing submissions, hanging out with my friends and working. One day, I received a call from him and his first sentence was "wat are you looo-ing?" (Imagine my yeye speaking in broken english) and the next thing, he laughs and says "哇酱久没有看到妳，忘记阿公了啊？” This became the norm, for the past 12 years. Sometimes, it's "吃饱了没有？” and other times, it's "劳工部讲每个人只可以做工44个小时，叫你老板听电话”. There will be no more random mid day phone calls. Trips to the gramps will be a little different now. There'll be no one disturbing ahma together with me. There'll be no other grandpa as 'sat' as you. They say a daughter is her father’s love from a past life. Then perhaps a granddaughter is love’s quiet answer to grief—a reminder that while time may take people from us, it can never take the love that finds its way back. by @minsterrr_

An homage to the food we love, we shot this passion project close to a year ago. One of the first films i had the opportunity to direct, it was a whirlwind of experimenting and learning on the go. Overall, really happy that we managed to bring out the grittiness and attitude from the original script. Somewhere between old Tiger Beer ads and an Anthony Bourdain opening monologue, we found a sweet spot that reps the heritage of Lau Pa Sat. This film was born out of challenging comfort zones and pushing myself to approach it differently from anything we’d done before. We wanted to make an anthem that felt raw and human, to really show the grit it takes to wear this jersey and stand behind it. 
The past couple months lead to so many conversations with football fans. It really felt like I had been invited into something sacred. 
Every memory, every thought and every story people were kind enough to share with me became the backbone of this script as I wrote it.

The challenges facing Singaporeans who want to become professional athletes are vast - limited funding, a small population, scarce resources and infrastructure, and a stronger focus on academics, to name a few. We made this little film to explore some of these obstacles and hope to encourage more funding and sponsorship for our athletes.

Throwback to shooting a car I definitely was not allowed to drive. (Rest assured, the streets remain safe from me.) One studio, four lighting setups, with Jasmine Sokko performing across them. All pulled off in a single day by a ridiculously motivated, scrappy team building structures from scratch on a tight turnaround. While, Mr. Stretch, our robot arm, worked overtime around the car.
